Service Agreement Endings

TLDR: Shady service agreement ending, quietly auto-enrolling into $$$$ month-to-month with unauthorized add-ons. Totally BS

Today I found out my service agreement ended a while back in 2025, and that I was auto-enrolled in a stupid expensive month-to-month plan (which included, inexplicably, a $3 add on for international minutes.) It was similar to my previous bills, so no obvious change of terms. As my term was paused for almost 8 months for travel, the ending date was not very clear. Found myself waiting for an email or some explicit notice that it was sending. It should have been ending around now.

Now, I know it's my responsibility to "pay attention to my monthly bills and contract" as the service agent neutrally chastized me for. For sure. But let's be real: what about Fido's responsibility to get customer consent before changing terms that they're paying for, including enrolling in a plan and tossing in ridiculous add-ons?

I did a little chatGPT search now and apparently CRTC changed a policy this April 2026 that they have to provide explicit notification (written, text or email) 90days before with plan options.

As opposed to 30 days prior solely on your mobile app. This was generated from many complaints that these companies were not giving clear enough info about terms ending, or clear enough info about plan options. Just auto enrolling month-to-month on similar priced plan.

Glad to know I'm not too nuts thinking something was amiss (only nuts for not keeping close enough watch on my bills)

WTF Fido? Your app never worked, total crap. You're saving money by decreasing staff and using AI, yet charging same or more to customers. You tried to authenticate me by voice midway through the convo without prior consent. We have to make an appointment to speak to a human agent? Do you think you're a bank?

Anybody have similar experience, or advice on how to get some cash back from before the rules were changed?

This is such BS. Canadians being boiled slowly like frogs in a pot. Definitely adding my voice to the CRTC (CCTS) complaints.
