Lawyer neglect of case?

Location: San Diego.

My personal injury lawyer filed litigation in August 2025, but he has not conducted discovery, and to the best of my knowledge has not sent my interrogatory answers to the defendant by their deadline in February.

It is now approaching June 2026, and he is not answering my questions about discovery or the case status.

He waited three months to file litigation after his demand was rejected a year ago.

It has taken so long that now I’m overseas.

I tried to verify that he has updated my address to the overseas address with either the law firm or the court, and he is not verifying that it has been done.

I got suspicious of not hearing anything for three months, and then I looked at the register of actions, and it said that he was not at a case management hearing.

That hearing at the discovery ending and trial dates.

Since then, I have sent multiple emails and a certified letter, and there is no answer for a month.

The earlier answers were not substantive answers to my questions, but more like I’m working on it sort of answers.

In the certified letter, I requested my file, but it’s been about a month, and I do not have any information.

I sent another email asking if they could please let me know when they could provide the information, if they could not meet the deadline that I set.

Is this neglect or what should I do?

I did contact the California “bridge” program, and they said that I have to wait until the beginning of June to see if he contacts me.

I’m not sure that I want the bar contacting him because I do not want him to withdraw. I just want him to do a basic minimum of his job.

Right now, he did not answer questions about the status of discovery, or if he ever sent my interrogatory answers to the defendant, or if he’s updated my address.

He had told me communicate on WhatsApp and not to email the paralegals.

After he did not answer the questions on WhatsApp substantively, I am no longer communicating on WhatsApp.

I tried calling about 25 other personal injury lawyers, and they all basically say that they cannot help me.

The case is too old.

I can try calling the office, which I had not done, because of the time difference in being overseas and not wanting to harass them, but they are not answering emails or written certified letters.

California bridge program for lawyer - client issues?

Would the California State Bar Bridge program help for a situation in which the lawyer is still communicating, but the answers he’s giving do not directly answer the questions on the status of the case?

Also, if a Superior Court Minute Order says that the lawyer did not appear, as in “no appearance for plaintiff,” and it only notes the presence of the defendant’s Attorney and the judge, but the lawyer says that “no appearances were missed,” with the bridge program helping in this situation?

The lawyer is a very talented one, and is communicating, but he is not directly answering basic questions on the status of the case.

Is a lawyer likely to withdraw when a client is seeking help understanding the status of the case through this program?
