Thank you to everyone who gave me advice about my MZ-909 over the week. I was ready to stuff around with it this morning to see if I could get it to go. HOWEVER IT CAME BACK TO LIFE! How long it'll stay running for? Who knows. I'll run a disc in it for a while to see if it plays to its entirety, but overall I'm taking this as a win!
I've recently purchased a couple of untested MZ-R909's with very different outcomes.
First one powers up and reads like it's brand new. Super responsive and quiet. I'm leaving it alone because it's very happy.
The second one has had a life. It has only played a disc once, after it took around 2 minutes to read the TOC. Since then it would only read TOC, then not play. I did read on this thread that it might just need some love, so I used a little white lithium grease on the sled rail, worm gear and hinges just to get everything moving. Of course cleaned the lens while I was there too. Now it'll spin the disc, but won't even read the TOC!
My question is, seasoned MiniDiscers, have I killed my second player with kindness, or should I be look elsewhere? Or was it probably that the lens was on its way out and it finally died. Any advice would be great!
