Is it normal to have bruises after a month of ankle surgery? And does it look swelling to you guys? (I had ORIF surgery)

I broke my ankle this Saturday from roller skating (first time and will be the last) and the Doctor told me i need to get surgery 😭😭does this look I needed it? Or can I just get a cast/splint. Please let me know this is my first time I broke a bone I’m so devastated! I absolutely do not want to get a surgery 😭
