Got a Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB) sitting mostly idle and thinking of turning it into a proper HermesAgent/OpenRouter mini-agent box. Wanted some recommendations before I fully dive in.
Current setup:
- Raspberry Pi 5 8GB
- 128GB SD card
- 100 Mbps fiber
- OpenRouter account loaded with ~$25 credits
- Comfortable with Docker/Linux/SSH
Thinking of running:
- HermesAgent
- OpenRouter APIs
- Maybe local lightweight models for fallback?
- Telegram/Discord integrations
- Automation + scraping + personal assistant stuff
Main goals:
- Actually useful daily automations
- AI agents that save time or make money
- Low power 24/7 setup
- Something stable on Pi hardware
Questions:
- What’s the BEST stack/setup for Pi 5 right now?
- Docker or bare metal?
- Any must-have tools/plugins/memory systems?
- SQLite vs Postgres on Pi?
- Is SD card enough or should I move to SSD ASAP?
- What models are giving best value on OpenRouter currently?
- Any cool real-world automations you guys actually use daily?
- Anyone using HermesAgent with Telegram bots/userbots?
- Worth running small local models alongside cloud APIs?
- Any mistakes/pitfalls I should avoid early?
Would love to see screenshots/setups/workflows from people already running this 24/7.
