[CA] IRS Taxes Reporting

We live in California. Stanislaus County. My husband lost his job in February. We have had 0 income since. Our roommate, my brother, has been having to front all the costs of rent and bills since then. We are supposed to pay him back when my husband got a job/our taxes back. We are supposed to reapply for our yearly snap in June.

Our rent portion is $800 a month. Plus monthly bills of about $400. My husband only ever really made about 2k take home. We qualified for SNAP before the job loss.

Anyway we filed our taxes in Feb and literally got them back today. $6k. And it’s a godsend. Our bills were all behind and we owe my brother a ton. But my question is with the reapply.

Will we still qualify if we have money in the bank from IRS? We wanted to get caught up and then keep the rest for future month rent/bills until my husband got a job.

Do I have to report this income within 10 days to the IRS? Will they kick us off SNAP when I do? Additionally, am I allowed to pay my brother back for Rent/bills he has paid without getting in trouble?

I want to do the right thing. Realistically we still have 0 income coming in. We need to save the rest of this money after bills for survival. Any advice appreciated
