Well its done

Well its done

I have finally finished my first ever quilted jacket, all thats left is to wash it.

And I hate it

Its coming into winter so if it softens up enough after washing and drying, I will use it but for now, im happy hating it.

Lessons I have learnt or thibgs I will try next time, (yes there will be atleast one more for myself).

1 NO ZIPPERS, while I love this peplum style, binding with zippers sucks and of course i forgot about the binding when placing my zipper 🤦‍♀️

2 speaking of binding, i suck at joining it on the cuffs so next time I am just going to binding it while its flat and hide the join in the seam allowance

3 while im binding the cuffs, I will bind the collar on 3 sides so the ends are hidden in the seams and the binding around the neck area looks neater

4 oh yeah, and even if there pattern specifies multiple pieces for collars (or the peplum) bite the bullet, accept the wastage and do it all in one piece

5 is much as I love the feel of satin binding especially around my neck, its just too fiddly with garment curves

6 (which really should be 1) quilt the pieces individually. I tried making my own fabric but I have ended up with some weird quilt line angles in my arms and other places, but not on the under arms because i missed that piece and had to do them separately. So next time I will try making the tops, cutting out my pieces then rectangles of batting and backing and quilting them then finish cutting the pieces out.

Next jacket will be more trench coat style with buttons and pockets but I think I will take a break and finish my fairy dragon quilt now that my sister has finally told me which batting they would like, (first time using wool since I normally use cotton)
