I adore this game. I’ve platinumed it and am going through a new file just to see everything again with a new eye. I have a question that’s bugging me, though…

At the end of Act 1, Nitya destroys the Preserver. We get a major reaction from Arjun, clutching his head and screaming in pain. We see the Preserver warped and damaged behind him. After this scene? No systemic changes for the player and as far as I can remember, this is never referenced again. This whole climactic scene seems pointless.

Everything else in the game feels so intentional, both mechanically and narratively. I assume I’m forgetting something. As it stands, this is the one moment in the game that I can’t wrap my head around. Am I forgetting something?
