Late 20s green card holder moving to the USA for the first time, basically starting from scratch, what's my best option?
I'm in my late 20s, with a bachelor's degree from Indonesia, and around 4 years of working experience as a journalist. My wife is a US citizen, and we're planning to move to the US next year.
I know that I'll be basically starting from scratch once I move. I don't know anyone there, I don't have a professional network, and I don't have any relevant certifications or expertise that I can transfer directly.
I studied law during my undergrad, so I figured going into law school might be an option but I know that that's an insanely competitive field, that's also really expensive. I'm also open to going into the trades but I'm not sure which trade i should go into. I've spent the better part of my 20s working in media and journalism, so my first thought was to go try my luck in that industry, but knowing how bad the industry is right now, and having been part of a company wide layoff myself, I don't know if that's a viable path for me anymore.
Basically, I want to be able to provide for my wife and our future family, I'm willing to get my hands dirty, work a trade, and go back to school, as long as I don't put myself in an unnecessary amount of debt, and I'm able to have a relatively stable career out of it.
