Got to hold my daughter again
Have another post with my x-rays, but bad trimalleolar fracture and full dislocation. Had no pulse in my foot at the ER. Was holding my 1-yr-old daughter when I slipped and probably broke it in the sudden pivot to shield her. That was 2/1, surgery was 3/6 - three plates, 19 screws + tightrope.
So roughly two months post surgery. First month was hard but got down to one crutch in boot, then almost able to walk in boot with no crutch. Thought I had hardware working out and had that checked (nope, likely just the plate under the skin or a part of a stitch working out - hurts a ton) but he wanted me to focus on weaning off the boot.
Every previous attempt hadnt gone great but for whatever reason last night I could do no boot and one crutch pretty easily. So easily I didn't want to sleep just to keep walking around semi-normally.
This morning I was able to get her out of her crib and carry her while I slowly walked around (still one crutch, but steady) . She's had me pick her up plenty but was never happy with her portable ladder being stationary. It was probably the best I've felt in three months. So great, even if nerve-wracking. My older daughter recently was having nightmares about me getting hurt holding her and that broke my heart but today made me feel like things might eventually feel normal again.
Still a ways to go and calf muscles to find but if you're struggling right now - keep going. It does get better.
