Undergrad research question
(repost from megathread since i got no response there) Hey I'm currently an upcoming sophomore undergrad for chemistry and doing a physics minor. I have some questions regarding asking for undergrad lab positions. Would sophomore year be too early to ask for undergrad research positions, how do I go about asking? I have only taken the general chemistry sequence at my school so I'm scared I would get rejected from the 2 labs I'm interested in working with since no other lab really interests me due to my school's heavy skew towards medicine/biology related things. I'm also nervous as all of my physics and engineering friends ( I do not know any other chemistry majors at my school and cannot find them) already have/had research positions since the middle of the second semester, I feel pressure to look for research now as an undergrad even though I may not have the skills. A bit different but, I was also thinking about transferring schools to give myself better research opportunities and better electives that relate to my interests in inorganic chemistry and energetics as well, not sure if this is a good idea.
