Why I started moving away from streaming services

Streaming was much simpler but now it’s like I need five different subscriptions for all the things. Stuff disappears every month, regional locks, ads unless you pay more, and everything is tied to an account that knows what you watch, where you watch it from, and it you’re sharing your accounts.

It also kind of dawned on me that I don’t actually own anything anymore, I’m basically just renting it.

With all that said, I added Usenet to a home server as part of a self hosted setup almost a year ago. It definitely feels kind of old school having everything locally stored again. But I have encrypted connections with downloads going straight to my own storage. And there’s no profiling, recommendations, or watch history tied to an account.

Not saying it’s for everyone, but has anyone else here started moving away from streaming platforms? Curious what kind of setup you moved to.
