Brandon Aiyuk Date to Watch
I think all of us are tired of the drama and the waiting. But since no team will trade for Aiyuk and take on his current oversized contract (in light of him not having played since his injury 2 years ago), and since San Francisco wants to hold him until absolutely forced to release him, it seems that the interesting dates to watch will include the first date for 49ers Organized Team Activities, which takes place on 5/27 and/or their mandatory minicamp on 6/9.
In light of the 49ers position, I have always felt the only way Aiyuk gets released early is if he shows up for their OTA’s and/or mini-camps and then the 49ers don’t let him participate based on a fear of him getting injured and them being stuck with paying him for his full contract. I’m not convinced he will show up, but I would love to see him try that. And then assuming the 49ers lock him out or don’t let him otherwise participate, I think the NFLPA would file a grievance on his behalf that should be successful based on the language of the current CBA.
Anyway, it’ll be something to watch.
