Thought we were being diligent, still have a leaking camper
Hi all! We noticed some soft spots developing along the inside wall of the rounded cap in the corner of our 2015 Coachmen Catalina. We had a leak a few years ago due to cracked sealant running along the vertical portion of the corner molding going down the cap. We opened up the interior wall in the bottom storage compartment due to it being extremely soft and have since re-sealed the corners going down the cap.
We had a pretty bad winter here in the Northeast with a lot of snow accumulation and the camper was left uncovered. Most of our roof edging and vents are covered with Eternabond tape. During our first camping trip of the season (last weekend) we traveled through heavy rain for several hours and the next day noticed some water running down the inside of the cap where we previously opened up the wall of the storage compartment.
We are very diligent in checking this area for leaks, so we are assuming something opened up over the winter with all of the snow sitting on top, because now there are soft spots higher up on the interior wall of the cap. We have to figure out where the leak is originating, so that is one project we need to complete before we attempt a repair of the interior wood of the cap.
Our question is:
Has anyone attempted to repair this area of a camper? Any tips, tricks, or videos would be very useful. Also looking for a list of materials we would potentially need to repair the interior space (bedroom). All of our bedroom cabinetry mounted to inside of the cap seems unaffected but would likely need to be removed in order to replace the wood with all of the soft spots.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you if you got this far.
