Witnessed a disgusting incident on the Expo Line today

I am still feeling completely sick to my stomach after what I witnessed on transit today at 6:20 PM. I was riding the Expo Line train bound for Braid when a young child randomly stomped on another passenger’s foot. Instead of using it as a parenting moment to teach accountability or basic manners, the father (who was an old white guy) looked at the kid and literally said, “don’t stomp on the Indian.” I was completely stunned by how casually he passed that casual, targeted racism onto his own kid. The passenger who was targeted remained absolutely calm and handled the disrespect with so much dignity, but they never should have been subjected to that in the first place. It is just so deeply disappointing and exhausting to see people actively teaching their children to view others through a lens of hate right here in our community. If you are going to raise a kid, teach them to be a decent human being, not a racist. We cannot let people think they can comfortably pass down hate on public transit without consequences
