After reviewing hundreds of CVs, I've noticed the same mistake over and over
Most people think they aren't getting interviews because they lack experience.
I rarely find that to be the real problem.
The bigger issue is that their CV doesn't make the relevant experience obvious.
Example:
Managed product roadmap.
But better placed...
Owned product strategy and roadmap for a marketplace serving 8M monthly users, leading initiatives that increased lead conversion by 20%.
Same person.
Same experience.
Completely different perception.
Some other patterns I see frequently:
- Listing responsibilities instead of outcomes
- Using generic titles without context
- Burying relevant experience under less relevant experience
- Applying with the exact same CV to every role
- Assuming recruiters read every bullet point
I'm curious:
What's the biggest challenge you've faced when updating your resume?
