I can’t help but to feel envious of my friends that come from privileged backgrounds. They have their MCAT prep paid for by their parents, didn’t have to worry about working much during undergrad bc their parents paid for their rent, their car note, and whatever expenses they had. They don’t worry about how many schools they can apply to bc they’re not the ones paying app fees. During MCAT studies, all they have to do is study and not worry about having a roof over their head, or if their bills will get paid, or where their next meal is coming from. Even having parents who can help them with understanding topics on the MCAT and navigate how to get into med school is such a huge win.
I didn’t come from a privileged background so to see all of this is completely new to me. I can’t believe people actually get to live like this. I wish that was me too, but I know everything happens for a reason. Still grateful I got to where I am today being first-Gen and navigating academics alone.
To all of you who are in the same position as me, I see you. I am proud of you. We are gonna get through this. Let’s keep pushing.
