Before you decide to take part in the study, it is important for you to understand why the research is being conducted and what does it involve. Please take time to carefully read the following information, and discuss with others if you wish. If anything is unclear or you wish to know more, contact us.
What is the purpose of the study?
This study aims to explore the academic experience of female neurodivergent students in U.K. universities. The purpose is to understand how their neurodivergence affects their university life and what support has universities provided that has impacted them.
Do I have to take part?
It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw study, every participant has the right to withdraw from the study at any point or time. If the data has already been collected, the participant can withdraw within 14 days of collection should you wish to.
What will I have to do?
You will be asked to take part in an interview either online via Teams or face-to-face. The interviews will be audio recorded, transcribed verbatim and anonymised. The interview will be semi-structured in the form of a discussion relating to your experiences which could take 30-60 minutes.
What are the possible risks or benefits of taking part?
There is no risk of injury or physical harm to you during the study. The questions are of sensitive nature, so should you become anxious or upset, you will be provided with necessary support and are free to pause in between or stop entirely.
By participating in the study, you will provide valuable insight into the experiences of female neurodivergent students, which will provide an understanding on how their academic experience and university support can be improved.
Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?
Personal data is any data that can lead to the identification of a specific (living) person. It can be obviously identifiable data (e.g. name or ID number, email address, voice recording) but it can also be a combination of "innocent" data such as age, height/weight, wealth, job position, company, city, etc. that when combined can lead to the identification of a person. Personal data) WILL BE processed by this study (since you will be identified or identifiable) and your confidentiality will be protected. All information you provide will be treated in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 2018 which incorporates the GDPR.

The interview/activity will be audio recorded and the recording will be deleted after it has been transcribed. The transcript will be stored in an encrypted file and will be deleted after one year. No information identifying you will be published by the study/researcher.
What will happen to the results of the research study?
The results of the research study will be used as part of an Undergraduate dissertation. The results may also be presented at conferences or in journal articles.
Who has reviewed the study? The study has received full ethical clearance from the Research ethics committee who reviewed the study. The committee is the Psychology Research Ethics Committee
