What are the best places to visit in Kyoto to avoid the crowds?

I had very high expectations for Kyoto, but after visiting Tokyo, Kanazawa, and Takayama, I’m finding Kyoto quite overwhelming. Even though I’m waking up at 5 a.m., most places already seem crowded.

I’m also finding it much more challenging to get around compared to the other cities, mainly because of the reliance on buses. Everyone I know says Kyoto was by far their favourite city in Japan, and I can definitely see why: the sights are incredibly beautiful. However, the crowds and transportation challenges are making it harder for me to enjoy the city as much as I expected.

Any tips or recommendations?
