COHB. The housing support that's SUPPOSED to help with these INSANE rental prices. Is woefully inadequate. My city has spent the entirety of their ANNUAL portion of this benefit already. AND there's a YEAR long wait list.
But you can't apply for it without already paying rent. So good luck surviving till you can get support! Oh wait it prioritises homeless people even though you can't apply for it WITHOUT PAYING RENT. Yupp makes perfect nonsense. Oh and of course you can't be on both housing waiting lists because that would be crazy right?
Oh your not quiet disabled enough to apply for ODSP? Awe that sucks. Here stay on OW the woefully inadequate system that hasn't had a meaningful increase in over two f-ing decades.
O.W. was $520 in 2003* its 2026 and its increased to $733 by about 40% While inflation has increased by 62% meaning a net loss of 20% of our buying power. So it's WORSE than 2003. And this is with CPI not ACTUAL inflation. Groceries have increased far more than 63% in 20 years. But, May the odds be ever in your favor! *while the federal government continues to debase the currency*
And the clawbacks that haven't been adjusted IN JUST AS LONG. But $200 is enough of an allowance right? Totally not like 12h of work at modern minimum right? You don't need that $733 next month right? You have hours now right? Oh you mean it's a temp job with three days of work? Darn guess that sucks. Hope you save more than what were taking off your cheque. Good luck though.

I'm so f-ing sick of trying to help myself, only for my support to be taken away. Only for my effort to be punished.
Means testing social supports needs to end. These systems dehumanize and punish us. They actively harm. Actively hate. And genuinely do not help in the context that they are supposed to.
If ANYONE can tell me it's fair for any unemployed and struggling persons can realistically survive off of $733 dollars in today's economy. I have a bridge to sell you.
Just get a job! Sure. Where? When? With who? How?

I get it, Capitalism needs an unemployed underclass. I'm fine with that (Ish) but we can't live in such deep poverty. Not having money doesn't encourage you to get a job. Once you get deep enough. You literally cannot afford to WORK. It costs money to go to work. It costs money to BE employed. Soul crushing poverty ONLY breeds hate and suffering.
Fix. The. System. UBI is the only answer.
