12 y old Cat (M) broke 2 toes, second opinion needed <3

Good Evening!

My cat has broken his 2 of his hindlegtoe's on the 15th of april. We got straight to a emergency vet in the evening, and made the decision to try to get the toe's healed by wearing a cast.

After week 2 checkup -> pictures showed no progression still / was hard to see , new cast was put on.

after week 4 checkup-> slight progression on the middle toe , thicker cast was put on with more tension

week 6/7 -> conclusion toe's havent healed at all or not enough progression.

he now has an emergency bandaid wrapping with a metal plate to keep some stability to his hind leg.

we got these options:

Operation , Orthopedic surgeon would check out photos and try to reconstruct the toes with rods/plates. unsure how it would heal, he would need to have another 6/8 weeks of cast and bench rest. ( which i absolutely hate the idea of putting him through it all again and for longer )

Removal of 2 toes, the vet suggested its a possibility since sometimes cats can learn how to walk on them and adjust their walk to it. but could lead to stability issues/ artritis and damage to the joints later on. and I would prefer not so have damage later on ass well when he gets older

Didnt quite get this option concrete, but he was talking about removal of the whole leg. I looked it up and it seems like its the least stressfull to the cat itself? hes 12 years old, hes already been going through this whole sjenanigans for 7 weeks, i just want a good solution for my pet. would appreciate some second opinions from proffesionals!
