Higanbana - When faced against someone with overwhelming power

Higanbana, a Spiderii Arachnean, is one of the most terrifying characters in my roster.

Of course that means jack shit in comparison to everyone else's outerversal characters, but hear me out for a sec.

When being a Specialist becomes terrifying.

So, let's start with the magic system of my verse.

Eclipse-verse runs on Meta-Energy, short for metaphysical energy. There are four variants: Mana, Vitalis, Psi, and Ixshar.

But in this case, Vitalis is the most important, because that's the very thing Higanbana uses.

Vitalis, also known as Ki/Chi/Life energy, is the life force of all living things. This is how souls work in my verse. You don't get a soul, you produce vitalis. If you're dead, you stop producing Vitalis. You don't go to hell if you die in Eclipse-verse. If your Vitalis gets attacked, you're fine. You're not weak to soul-based attacks. Because you have no soul, you have Vitalis.

Tangent aside,

Vitalis is a Meta-Energy being produced by all living things, and it can be manipulated through body movement, creating certain effects. This includes breathing, moving your limbs, flexing, or tensing a muscle.

That's why Martial Arts make use of Vitalis.

One such martial arts is Breath of the Spider, which is a breathing technique in the verse that allows you to simulate Spider strength and hydraulic mechanics, granting super strength, speed, and more importantly, allows you to jump really high and climb walls.

But what if a powerful Arachnean uses Breath of the Spider?

You get Higanbana.

Higanbana is an Arachnean (a race of humanoid spiders), and she's one of the main reasons why being a talented specialist is broken in this verse.

Higanbana possesses and produces an explosive amount of Vitalis. It gets to a point that the mere Aura getting produced by her Vitalis alone is enough to cause people to physically feel like they're being forced into the ground, as if gravity is getting heavier around them (she calls this Immense Pressure).

Yes, this mf can literally beat you in a fight by aura farming.

Higanbana uses webs in her fight, but because of her innately powerful vitalis production, her webs are reinforced with vitalis to the point that even if she makes them too thin to see, they're incredibly tough to cut that it feels like trying to cut bricks with a plastic knife. That's just her reinforcing her threads with Vitalis. These things are also so thin that thanks to their durability, they could cut things easily. Higanbana only uses these webs, yet despite that, she has been dubbed "The Absolute Strongest" in her clan.

Breath of the Spider makes her innate arachnid traits as an Arachnean a nightmare to deal with, because her strength, which is already comparable to a 20 foot spider (which is crazy because Higanbana is like, 5'3 in height), is further augmented by Breath of the Spider. Not to mention the very same breath allows her to circulate her Vitalis through her threads, allowing her to not only control the threads, but give them hydraulic-like functions that makes them functionally invisible guillotines.

Even worse? Higanbana never needed to grow stronger, even though she can (and has demonstrated that she can improve when she lost for the very first time).

Oftentimes, during her fights, she just stands there in the middle, as her opponents get dismantled by unseen threats.

People who can sense meta-energies are in more trouble, because Higanbana's Immense Pressure of an absolute fountain of Vitalis is overwhelming for any other martial artist to face.

She's one of the strongest characters in the verse, that's for sure. Of course, this pales in comparison to anyone above country level or something, but I do think she's a genuinely terrifying foe to anyone who doesn't have a clear answer to her arsenal.

(Oh, and she does learn a special ability revealed later that basically allows her to contest anyone above Planetary as long as they don't perception blitz her)

Author's notes:

Sorry this took a lot longer. I had a rough week last week, and I haven't gotten to completing it until a while ago.

Regardless, hope you enjoy this one too!

Conquest was not in a good mood.

What she thought was something dangerous was nothing more than a nuisance at best, and a waste of time at worst.

That's what gave the Monsterslayers trouble?

Shaking off the disappointment from her mind, she began to walk away, back to the nearest Spell Tower. However, as she walked, her communication device rang. She immediately took it out and answered.

A small image of another knight clad in armor similar to hers was projected out of it. His armor was covered in jagged spikes and sharp edges. Bright golden eyes peered out from its helmet, where two horse ears were situated atop.

"What is it, War?" She asked, irritation in her voice.

"Done dealing with animals yet, Victoria?" The red knight asked, a hint of biting sarcasm in his voice.

"I am," Conquest answered dismissively. "This would've been your task, but no. Instead, you join Famine in wasting time searching for the runaway princess."

The red knight chuckled.

"It was Madame Aurum's orders to find her, is it not? She's a valuable asset to Aurum Enterprises after all." He answered.

"Of course." She deadpanned.

A second knight with horse features appeared behind the red one, clad in black armor. Her armor was slimmer, almost skeletal, covered in tattered rags. Much like Conquest and the red knight, she, too, had horse ears and tail.

"Ohhhh, Victoria~! You'll find this news very noteworthy!" The black-clad knight called out in a singsong tone.

"State your news, Famine."

The black-clad knight giggled. "Awww~! I already told you to call me Aegra outside of formal meetings, didn't I~?"

Conquest was not having it.

"Stop wasting my time."

"But of course, our dear leader~!" Famine singsang. "You'd be delighted to know that the runaway was reported to have been found within the premises of Shiddonia. It makes it easier for us, now that we know she's here too."

"Good." Conquest nodded. "Be ready for my arrival within the office. We'll speak of this matter before making any decisions."

"Right away, dear leader." Both knights said in unison.

"And War, rally our Lilins. Shiddonian Monsters are getting very bothersome, and your mercenaries are not up to the task that they were given."

The Red knight chuckled. "Right. As you wish."

Conquest turned off the device.

She turned to the distance, gazing at the forest. Hopefully, something good would happen today.

***

A few miles away, the Scarlet Demon kept her distance from that very patch of forest.

Her retreat was working—enough distance now between herself and the silver knight, the thing that had beaten her without even trying. Now, she moved with quiet urgency through the dense brush. The interference in the distance was all-encompassing, but that was better than having to deal with that... predator ever again.

Her gaze moved with purpose as she dodged and weaved the many branches and tree trunks that blocked the path. She could feel the next static-producing object close by.

She just had to destroy that one too.

But as she ran, a presence cut through the noise and slowed her steps. Not a friendly one—she didn't know what that word meant, only that this wasn't it.

It was close. On the very path she was taking. She was going to run into it. By her estimate, it sat just behind the next patch of trees ahead.

Slowing to a walk, the Scarlet Demon crept behind the treeline. Same as before: stalk, confirm there's no danger to herself, then decide.

She peered around a trunk. In the distance, she saw a creature about 13 feet tall covered in black feathers. Its head was adorned with a majestic purple crest, while bony spikes protruded from its back. Its arms were covered with wing feathers, and at the tip were sharp claws. Its foot had a peculiar sickle-shaped claw, but the most dangerous thing was its toothed beak, riddled with serrated teeth that would saw through flesh.

It was her rival.

It had someone cornered. Its head tilted, curious, almost lazy, the way a predator looks at something it isn't in a hurry to kill. Pressed against a tree behind it was a much smaller shape—barely half the Rival's height, and it didn't carry itself like a Shiddonian beast at all. No scales, no claws bracing for a fight. Just a humanoid stature, red hair pulled into a ponytail. Something gold and unfamiliar caught the light atop her head.

It wasn't horns. It wasn't sharp enough. It looked more decorative.

She didn't know what to make of it, filed it away as unimportant, and returned to what she recognized: the white coat, like the ones she'd seen on the scientists before.

That makes her one of them, doesn't it?

She stepped out from behind the tree, alerting the Rival and the small redhead to her presence. The feathered monster turned to her almost instantly, anticipating an attack. The Scarlet Demon began her transformation again, growing in size as she became more monstrous. Not as big as the Rival, but large enough to be threatening. Her hair flared outward in an intimidating display, as her voice transitioned into a roar.

The Rival bared its teeth, its growl escaping from its throat. It flared its wings outward, attempting to look bigger, as its feathers puffed up in anticipation.

Scarlet Demon vs The Rival

The two beasts circled each other slowly, eyes locked onto each other, noticing every tiny twitch in each other's body. The redhead began to step away from the tree she was cornered in, slowly making her way into a nearby large boulder for cover.

A second had passed.

The next instant exploded with action. The Rival lunged at the Scarlet Demon, multiple tons of feathered weight charging in her direction. However, she dug her foot into the ground and stopped the monster in its tracks with her hands.

The beast slammed its head onto her side, causing her to go off balance for a moment. Taking advantage of this, it then sank its teeth into her hand.

Reeling in pain, the Scarlet Demon pivoted, her tail slamming onto the beast's jaws, breaking it as it let go of her hand, which began to rapidly heal the damage.

Undeterred, the beast shook off its daze, its jaws realigning as damage healed, and slowly disappeared, becoming invisible to the eye.

The Scarlet Demon narrowed her eyes as she used her senses instead. The monster, despite being unseen, emitted a trail of static once it entered its invisible state. It was a similar kind of static to the interference the Scarlet Demon was feeling.

The trail moved in a strafe before making another lunging bite.

Miss.

Pain erupted in the Rival's neck as the Scarlet Demon slammed her head onto it, her horns piercing through feathered flesh as the monster reappeared. Following that stab was a powerful burst of red light that surged from the Scarlet Demon's eyes and pushed it away, flinging the Rival into the boulder the small figure was hiding behind.

Seeing this, the redhead immediately rolled away as the monster crashed into the stone, breaking it and making a crater on the ground.

The Scarlet Demon roared at it loudly as it rose back up. The Rival roared back.

The two beasts roared with such ferocity to see who would stand down first. The Rival, seeing that the Scarlet Demon was not going to back away any time soon, found no worth in staying to contest a small meal. It stopped, turned away, then sprinted, entering its invisible state as it disappeared into the trees.

Seeing the beast retreat, the Scarlet Demon huffed. She turned her gaze onto the small redhead. She could feel that the redhead was tense. She slowly lumbered to it, her head tilting.

"Crap..." The figure muttered as it took a step back.

She peered down, meeting its violet eyes with her red ones. Slowly, she leaned down, her teeth bared up front.

It wasn't running. Was it a threat?

The Scarlet Demon growled, a deep sound that resonated within the very ground below. Grass and stone trembled as the sound travelled.

The figure took a step back.

It still didn't flee. Was it frozen in fear?

It doesn't seem to be a threat.

The Scarlet Demon blinked. Seeing no threat from this small creature. She rose back up to her full height as her form shifted again, returning to her smaller size. Her hair settled down, and her teeth returned to normal. She was still a head taller than the small figure, but smaller than her own monster form.

She noticed the redhead's eyes widened as it noticed her shift.

Without any threat left, the Scarlet Demon turned away and began to walk into the trees.

"Wait!"

She turned. It was that redhead, walking toward her cautiously.

"I- um... Thank you—!" She said, stopping in front of the Scarlet Demon. "... For saving me."

The Scarlet Demon stopped.

Words. She used words. Just like the others. But she's not hostile.

https://preview.redd.it/mjcptx8k3rjh1.png?width=1988&format=png&auto=webp&s=4f14f0d652db54fce7759a7c6b0d4a191a0b9375

"... Thank... you...?" The Scarlet Demon said carefully, as if talking is new to her. Truth be told, she never needed to talk before. This was unprecedented.

"Oh good, you can talk." The redhead sighed, almost in relief. "Yeah, thank you. I was lost and..."

The Scarlet Demon hesitated, choosing her words carefully. "...What does... That mean?"

The redhead blinked. "Um... It's a sign of gratitude. Y'know, as a way to acknowledge a good deed someone did?"

The Scarlet Demon was confused.

"... Right." The redhead deflated.

Her violet eyes wandered down onto the glowing red X mark below the Scarlet Demon's neck, and her eyes widened.

"Wait... You're a Lilin." She muttered. "That Spirit Core in your chest? That immense strength and regenerative abilities? Those Photon Beams coming from your eyes? There's no doubt about it."

"... Lilin...?"

"You don't know that either?"

The Scarlet Demon stayed silent. The redhead sighed.

"... Right."

She thought again, pacing back and forth for a moment, before stopping. "I guess I should introduce myself first, then. I'm Cherry Rose. What's your name?"

"... Name...?"

Cherry blinked. "Yes. A name. It's who you are. Who everyone refers to you as. Your identity."

Identity. The Scarlet Demon never thought about that. It was never important to her. It didn't help her survive before.

But now, this small creature called Cherry is asking her what her identity was.

She thought for a moment. She heard from before a lot of things she was called by. She immediately remembered one. "... The Scarlet Demon."

Cherry went silent for a moment.

"That isn't a name." She answered. "That's a title. A name is your personal identity, not a descriptor of who you are."

The Scarlet Demon's brow furrowed. "... I... Do not have a name."

Cherry sighed again. "Figured as much."

She then snapped her fingers. "Well then, let's think up a new one for you. One that you would like. One that would really show your identity!"

"... Okay."

Cherry smiled. "Sweet! Now, let's see... What's a good name for a Lilin with a red spirit core in the shape of an X...?"

"... Why is it important?" The Scarlet Demon asked. "...Will it help survival?"

"Well, a lot of people recognize each other by names. That's how you'd know I'm Cherry Rose, not red-haired girl. It is easier to identify someone through their names, and it makes it easier to help them."

The Scarlet Demon blinked before thinking. She remembered the titles she had. Scarlet Demon.

That's it.

"... Then, I wish to be named Scarlett Rose."

Deep thoughts from the deep with Error for no reason #2 (read body)

(image unrelated, but that's Selene, the Moon Goddess, if you're curious, and it's an old art)

What do you win in OC powerscaling debates?

I'm curious, because it seems to be a general consensus that winning is very important. Powerscaling already is already a source of countless debates that wanks characters until they win, but being an OC makes this even funnier because creators can just arbitrarily give their characters new powers to win—

But what do you win, exactly? Why is it very important to win? A trophy, perhaps?

~•~•~

In all seriousness, I think trying to just win for no reason is not going to give any good results. The fun in discussing and debating is... Well, the discussion itself, not necessarily the winner.

Engaging in the discussion rather than just claiming to win an imaginary prize could allow one to be a better writer and creator, and is actually much more fun than just leaving a comment that says "yeah my OC wins" or some shit lol.

That is all—

~•~•~

I accidentally ruined the powerscaling of my own verse

Huh...

Well this changes a lot of things, now wouldn't it?

Tbh it never was a retcon. I just forgor that Gaia is that big in comparison.

The image is a stock image of Neptune and Earth, I just drew the supercontinents to see how big they are in comparison to earth and holy shit wtf is this?

(It accidentally upscales a lot of characters, and it actually made some of the plot points make sense)

Could your OC unfuse the Dark Star? (Read body)

Ah yes, I return from the depths.

Summary of the Dark Star

The Dark Star is the fusion name for Stella and Tenebrix, and is a creature of enormous proportions. The unstable fusion is formed from a toxic relationship between Stella and Tenebrix.

Challenge

Can your OC Unfuse Stella and Tenebrix without killing either of them?

The fusion is similar to Steven Universe fusions. Hit them enough times and they unfuse. However, the big problem is that Tenebrix will force the fusion to restablize if they're becoming undone.

The goal is to completely separate them without any of them taking major damage.

Any abilities that can forcefully unfuse them will help.

So, how will your OCs do it?

u/Error_603 — 8 days ago

What would your OC do if they see Conquest of the Four Horsemen casually beating one of the top 2s in your verse? [hypothetical, read body]

Context:

Conquest of the Four Horsemen is a very mysterious figure from the Four Horsemen. She is described as an armored figure with horse ears and tail, and is currently known for her dismissive and composed personality, as well as very analytical. She deals with superpowered giant dinosaurs like its Tuesday, and immediately dismantles Scarlett's adaptation and superior strength.

Scarlett Rose Chronicles Ch2 where Conquest beats Scarlett. (if you're curious on how she moves and defeats the Scarlet Demon).

Now for the interaction:

Hypothetically, without accounting for powerscaling (or simply assuming Conquest is stronger than the top 2 of your OC's verse), how would your OCs respond to seeing Conquest beating one of the top 2s in your verse with ease?

Chapter 2: Enter Conquest

The Scarlet Demon moved through the forest.

For the first time in a while, it felt quieter. No noise clouded her senses immediately. It allowed her to feel the beauty of the soft music that nature sings. She didn't need to break through the trees anymore. She was no longer in a rush to silence the static that plagued her senses for days.

Eventually, she heard the sounds of running water.

She had reached a riverside.

The water wasn't deep, and it wasn't in a rush either. She could see creatures with their heads lowered above the water. From her observations, most creatures would reclaim energy by absorbing water. She didn't understand how. She never really needed it herself.

As she stepped closer into the river, the creatures all went alert. Heads immediately turned in her direction. The moment they saw her, they began to scatter, fleeing in different directions away from her.

They were not threats.

No one to hurt her here. Good.

Sensing no more presence around her, her appearance began to change.

Her hair was softer, and her claws were rounder, now looking like fingers made of bone instead of weapons. Her eyes turned softer, and the X-shaped core in her chest pulsated more calmly.

The Scarlet Demon lowered her legs onto the water. It wasn't deep enough to submerge her feet, which were covered in skin that adapted to look like black bandages, but it didn't matter. The feeling of the soft liquid around her skin was enough to relax her.

Closing her eyes, she attempted to search for the signal again. It had been a few weeks since she had last felt it. Too many interferences appeared then. She allowed her senses to extend further, past the sweet humming of the trees, the music of other creatures that sang to her, and the soft song of the planet itself.

More static.

She sighed.

She opened her eyes again, her eyes wandering about the river. She then saw something shiny under the water.

Curious.

Moving through the river, the Scarlet Demon walked closer to whatever shiny thing she saw. It was a beam of metal half submerged in the water.

Picking it up, she began looking into the distance. She saw a group of creatures herding together, feeding on grass.

She blinked, then tilted her head.

She looked back into the metal beam for a brief moment.

The next moment, she was biting and chewing into it. Her teeth sharpened in response, crushing the hard metal bar like paper in her jaws.

She chewed, and chewed, and chewed.

It did nothing.

Spitting the chewed metal, the Scarlet Demon was unsatisfied, throwing the remaining part away as her teeth returned to normal. She looked back at the herding creatures. Creatures that looked like each other, that spent time with each other, that understood each other.

Her gaze drifted to her reflection.

She looked nothing like them.

She had nobody.

That's why it was important to find the signal, after all. It was one that she resonated with. As if a call that she understood. A call only she could hear.

She has to find it.

She closed her eyes again. Maybe this time it'll be different. Maybe this time she'll hear the call more clearly.

Static.

Groaning to herself, the Scarlet Demon opened her eyes in frustration. This is clearly not working. There is so much interference.

She thought for a moment. She didn't need to destroy the constructs making the noise.

She could simply avoid them.

The previous noise-making construct she destroyed obscured too much of her senses. It was deafening. It prevented her from sensing the signal. Now, though, with the closest interference gone, she could refocus. There was other obscuring static, yes, but she could avoid them.

That's what she'll do. She'll go to the path with the least amount of noise, and try to sense the signal once again.

With a newfound plan, she began to move once again. She allowed her senses to point her to the right direction. She could clearly feel the sources of the noise, so she'd avoid the paths that led to them. Eventually, her path led her to a clearing in the distance. However, as she moved through the trees. She felt something.

A familiar signal.

Not exactly the one she had been following, but something similar. It was a lot closer, and she could tell it was coming from the clearing that was close by. With caution, she moved behind a tree to inspect.

In the distance, she could see two figures. One of them was a familiar sight; it was one of the creatures that lived here. It was a 13-foot-tall bird-like beast with a beak filled with sharp teeth, its body completely covered in feathers. But that's not what caught her attention. It was the other, smaller figure.

The other figure was covered in silver metal lined with gold trimmings. Two horse-like ears were situated on top of the metal covering its head, and on its back was a white, hairy tail. She noted that the tail couldn't be used as a weapon. However, the legs were powerful, clad in hooves. It emitted a form of signal unlike its adversary.

That's the one she sensed.

The silver-clad figure drove the larger beast down with its mere hands, slamming it so hard into the ground that it formed a deep crater. In mere moments, the feathered beast ceased moving.

"... And they had trouble with these, they said." The figure uttered to herself dismissively.

She then kicked the carcass away, sending it crashing into a tree.

"This place is riddled with beasts." The figure continued.

The Scarlet Demon peered from the tree she was hiding in. The figure had dealt with a creature twice its size without any use of steel blades or stringed wood shooting a projectile. Fighting it is out of the question. Perhaps she could take a different route to avoid this figure.

Making up her mind, the Scarlet Demon turned around. However, as she did, shock immediately overtook her. She felt the signal from earlier vanish.

No.

It hadn't disappeared.

It moved.

It was behind her.

https://preview.redd.it/ix3jm3fg3shh1.png?width=1963&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c72e9923b674c1ba0a8a3cc3bfc10a2d0747484

"Where do you think you're going, beast?" It spoke.

The Scarlet Demon immediately scrambled, attempting to escape this confrontation, as her hair and claws spiked. However, without any warning, the figure threw a haymaker straight into the monster's cheek, causing her to slide backward from the force of the blow.

https://preview.redd.it/1cl5j8th3shh1.png?width=1541&format=png&auto=webp&s=51223ccf8807ab297d56f4e86a2399ae7663179b

It hurt. More than any attack she had ever felt before.

The figure wasn't done.

Immediately following up, the figure sped forward, landing two more savage blows, one at the beast's side and another at her face, knocking her down to the ground.

The Scarlet Demon growled as she rose back up. Visible damage began to heal rapidly, as bone plating erupted from her skin to reinforce the previously damaged area.

She was adapting.

The figure noticed the golden lights that were its eyes, beneath the protective metal covering its head, narrowing in response.

"Rapid healing and reactive mutation." Said the figure, analyzing her. "And it's quite faster in comparison to the other beasts I've fought here. You must be the monster my subordinates were talking about."

Having no more choice, the Scarlet Demon began to shift forms once again, growing yet bigger, teeth sharpening. Standing at a height that dwarfed even the figure, her roar resonated across the clearing.

The figure was unmoved.

"I'm not impressed." Said the figure.

Two more unarmed strikes landed flush onto the Scarlet Demon's face, causing her to stumble backward. Intimidation didn't work. She had to fight now.

Claws were immediately launched forward, raking hard onto the figure's silver and gold plates, leaving deep gashes into the protective coating. The silver-clad figure spun into a kick that slammed into her face, but she was undeterred. Bone plating rushed to cover the damaged area. She pressed forward, hammering her massive arms onto the opponent's head, which left it dazed for a moment, before spearing it into a takedown.

It wasn't over yet.

A pair of silver and gold boots was driven straight into her face, throwing her away from the silver-clad warrior, allowing it to recover its footing.

The Scarlet Demon roared.

Twin beams of red light erupted from the beast's eyes, firing straight into the warrior. It raised its guard as the beams struck it, pushing it back. Not letting up, the Scarlet Demon rushed forward into a haymaker that sent it sliding back, hurling dirt and grass into the air as it skidded to a stop. The final blow did a good amount of damage to its protective coating, showing cracks and a large dent on the surface area.

It should be over. From her experience, wounded opponents would flee the moment they took major damage.

But it still wasn't. The protective shell that coated the figure began to mend.

Of course. Other creatures would heal their wounds. This should be no different.

She must take advantage while her opponent recuperates.

Beams fired again from the Scarlet Demon's eyes, aimed directly at the adversary's neck. It should be enough to take the opponent down. She had experience with this, after all. Any persistent opponent would fall if the neck was targeted.

The figure jerked its head to the side, the beam streaking past, not hitting its mark. Her eyes widened.

Before she could even react, the warrior vanished from sight and reappeared in front of her. Pain flared across her jaw as the warrior's fist connected. Her claws attempted to swipe in retaliation, but the warrior was already gone, her strike hitting nothing.

Bone plating rushed to protect the healed area.

Another hit landed flush on her side, causing her to stumble. More bones burst to protect the area.

Yet another hit landed.

And another.

She was being peppered with heavy strikes without giving her any chance to retaliate. Bones would erupt from her flesh to cover the areas where the blows landed. It was good for a while.

But she felt her own adaptations began to slow her down. Her body felt heavier with all the bones.

Too heavy...

An open-handed strike landed cleanly. Protective bones surged...

A kick to her side she failed to block struck. More bones...

Eventually, her body had so much bone plating that she could barely move.

"So much for adaptation." The warrior said dismissively before landing a straight kick that sent the Scarlet Demon crashing into a tree, all the bone plates shattering and crumbling to the ground.

The Scarlet Demon clenched her teeth as she struggled to stand back up.

This is bad. This is very bad.

The figure stepped closer. "Had enough, beast?"

It stepped forward again.

"You're just like the rest of them."

Too dangerous...

The Scarlet Demon stepped back.

The figure stepped even closer, fists glowing bright with power. "I'll be doing all of us a favor by eliminating you."

...She has to flee.

With a defiant roar, the Scarlet Demon pivoted, slamming her tail into the warrior's armor. The silver-clad warrior slid back but remained unimpressed. Its fists dimmed as it watched the beast flee, then turned away without another word.

Without looking back, the Scarlet Demon surged away on all fours, retreating into the deeper parts of the forest. Beams shot from her eyes, slicing cleanly into the bark of large trees, which crashed into the path behind her.

Cover the escape. Make it work for the chase.

As she ran, she could feel the signal from her attacker growing more distant. It seemed as if her opponent didn't give chase.

That's good.

After covering a far enough distance away from the warrior, she slowed down. She allowed her senses to extend once more, checking for other threats nearby.

There were none.

Her spiked hair settled down, and her entire body turned back to normal. She was safe now.

Good.

She sighed, relaxing under a tree.

What did she learn here?

There was a predator here. That silver-clad warrior.

She had to avoid that warrior at all costs. Fighting it would be risky, detrimental, and a waste of energy. She remembered the signal of its energy.

She had to steer away from it from now on.

That's what she'll do.

Confronting the static-producing constructs was easier than dealing with that enemy. Avoiding it was top priority.

She closed her eyes, attempting to feel the music of nature once more.

She mapped out the forest slowly in her mind. She felt the signal of the silver-clad enemy. It was faint, but she could still sense it coming from a certain direction. That's the direction she'll avoid.

She extended her senses further.

Then she felt it.

Objects producing interference in the distance.

The interference was loud...

But the predator wasn't there.

That's more important.

The goal didn't change, after all. The familiar signal is of utmost importance.

With that, the Scarlet Demon stood up and continued her move, her newfound strategy in mind.

Excerpt from Ch3

Conquest was not in a good mood.

What she thought was something dangerous was nothing more than a nuisance at best, and a waste of time at worst.

That’s what gave the Monsterslayers trouble?

Shaking off the disappointment from her mind, she began to walk away, back to the nearest Spell Tower. However, as she walked, her communication device rang. She immediately took it out and answered.

A small image of another knight clad in armor similar to hers was projected out of it. His armor was covered in jagged spikes and sharp edges. Bright golden eyes peered out from its helmet, where two horse ears were situated atop.

“What is it, War?” She asked, irritation in her voice.

“Done dealing with animals yet, Victoria?” The red knight asked, a hint of biting sarcasm in his voice.

“I am,” Conquest answered dismissively. “This would’ve been your task, but no. Instead, you join Famine in wasting time searching for the runaway princess.”

The red knight chuckled.

“It was Madame Aurum’s orders to find her, is it not? She’s a valuable asset to Aurum Enterprises after all.” He answered.

“Of course.” She deadpanned.

A second knight with horse features appeared behind the red one, clad in black armor. Her armor was slimmer, almost skeletal, covered in tattered rags. Much like Conquest and the red knight, she, too, had horse ears and tail.

“Ohhhh, Victoria~! You’ll find this news very noteworthy!” The black-clad knight called out in a singsong tone.

“State your news, Famine.”

The black-clad knight giggled. “Awww~! I already told you to call me Aegra outside of formal meetings, didn’t I~?”

Conquest was not having it.

“Stop wasting my time.”

“But of course, our dear leader~!” Famine singsang. “You’d be delighted to know that the runaway was reported to have been found within the premises of Shiddonia. It makes it easier for us, now that we know she’s here too.”

“Good.” Conquest nodded. “Be ready for my arrival within the office. We’ll speak of this matter before making any decisions.”

“Right away, dear leader!” Both knights said in unison.

Conquest turned off the device.

At least something good happened today.

NOISE - Scarlett Rose Chronicles (Ch1 Rewrite + Short Excerpt for Ch2)

Chapter 1: NOISE

Static.

Static flooded her senses.

Not necessarily sound, no. She can tell the difference between sounds and whatever this feeling is. Everything around her emits this static. Some more than others. The glowing runes carved onto stone overrun by moss, the trees that stretched high above, as if attempting to reach the skies, even the creatures in the distance produce them. It was everywhere, as if whatever is being produced is constantly blocking her senses.

But all of those pale in comparison to the large stone structure in the distance, emitting so much static that everything else faded beneath it—interference that was blocking something important to her. She was trying to sense something else. A specific form of signal that felt right to her—that felt familiar to her.

Trees did not stop her at all. Her sharp ivory claws sliced through wood like paper, propelled by massive arms. Not that she needed to use them anyway. She was six feet two inches of unstoppable force plowing through trees. A pair of ivory horns was atop her head, surrounded by black hair that trailed behind her, flowing along the wind, matching the color of her tattered clothing. A damaged red sash hugged her torso, and she wore torn leggings the color of blood.

Her red eyes were sharp and focused, glowing bright in the darkness of the forest. Sharing the color of her eyes was the glowing red X on her chest, pulsing ever so slightly as she ran tirelessly across the forest.

As she got closer, she slowed before the reinforced concrete walls. It didn’t matter to her, as she decided that the best way to deal with it was to pretend that it didn’t exist.

Concrete crumbled, and metal bars bent as soon as she walked through them without issue. Alarms immediately blared, and lights she didn’t understand flared to life. But all of that noise paled in comparison to the static she was feeling that’s inside the structure.

Scarlett breaks down wall.png

Of course, she bulldozed through the structure’s walls the same way she did with the outer walls. It didn’t stop her before, and it certainly didn’t stop her now.

As she allowed herself into the establishment, what greeted her was a room full of startled and nervous people wearing white lab coats, not that she knew what a lab coat was and what it represented. They were all afraid of her. That’s good, because that means nobody would try to attack her.

“It’s the Scarlet Demon!” One of the scientists cried out.

So that’s what they call her—The Scarlet Demon. She didn’t really understand what it implies. Not that it ever mattered. What does matter, however, is the cylindrical glass container that holds a shiny blue liquid. To her, it was the source of the static she was feeling. The interference that’s drowning out the signal that she was looking for. She has to get rid of it now.

Without any warning, the Scarlet Demon surged forward towards the container. Her steps shook the ground, and her claws were ready to tear apart the source of the noise.

Suddenly, the main doors exploded open. Four elite mercenaries burst through in a dramatic formation, striking powerful poses as they announced themselves, causing the Scarlet Demon to pause, skidding to a stop.

“Stop right there, monster!” They all shouted in unison, weapons drawn.

“It’s the Monsterslayers!” an older scientist cried in relief.

The Scarlet Demon blinked, her head tilting to the side.

Her eyes scanned the new threats. The first one was clad in armor of iron, which, to her best guess, was their alpha. The next one was a lot smaller, wearing a cloak of red with fire in his hands. Another wielded a bow, an arrow already nocked onto its strings. The last one was unarmed, yet the body type suggests that he was a brawler.

One of the scientists, an intern most likely, shared her confusion. “Who?”

“The Monsterslayers...,” said the older scientist. “Second highest in the prestige ranking. Led by none other than Swordmaster Knight. His allies are Pyro Kinetic, Silverarrow Archer, and Soul Fist.”

A couple of wide-eyed interns clapped awkwardly.

“That must be her.” Swordmaster Knight said, his sword pointed in the Scarlet Demon’s direction.

They’re threats. They have intent to hurt her, unlike the scientists. They outnumber her too—4 to 1.

Her hair suddenly flared and spiked even further as her eyes changed into a white void. Her body started to grow, muscles bulging, skin tearing and knitting back together. Bones forced themselves to grow out of her skin, reinforcing her forearms, as her claws sharpened even further. Her teeth spiked, and her jaws widened. Her size doubled, until she towered over the mercenaries, causing them to stop in their tracks.

Scarlett Monster Form.png

The Scarlet Demon had transformed, her bellow resonating within the building, cracking walls and glass with mere sound.

The scientists all scattered in fear, making a run for it towards the nearest doors to the exit. Good. That’s the intention.

Yet the mercenaries stood firm, despite her sensing their fear too. The Scarlet Demon frowned.

Why are they not running?

"Charge!" Swordmaster Knight yelled.

With a battle cry, he swung at the Scarlet Demon with his great sword, its blade glowing bright with magic. However, to his surprise, the blade failed to pierce the monster’s flesh. It almost felt like swinging his sword at concrete. Taking advantage of his shock, the Scarlet Demon pivoted, her tail crashing into the knight with a force that sent him flying through several walls.

Pyro Kinetic and Silverarrow Archer stepped in next, letting loose a barrage of fireballs and arrows. The projectiles flew into her, but just like before, they all failed to do meaningful damage. She charged through the projectiles like a feral beast on all fours, shocking the mage and the archer. Soul Fist immediately intercepted her; his fists charged with a powerful energy with a golden glow—life energy, or ki. With a battle cry, he unleashed a flurry of blows enhanced by ki. The Scarlet Demon used one arm to block the flurry, yet Soul Fist smirked. Energy surged to his arms, glowing a bright golden hue as he inhaled sharply.

“Guard Break: Soul Shattering Blow!”

The martial artist unleashed the strike directly onto the Scarlet Demon’s guarding arm. The technique amplified the blow, causing the hardened flesh and reinforcing bones on the Scarlet Demon’s arm to crack. The monster screeched in response, registering the damage as her X-shaped core pulsed. On instinct, she swung her broken arm at Soul Fist. The martial artist managed to get his guard up, but the sheer power of the blow sent him flying.

Immediately, energy from her core rushed into the broken arm, causing fractures and wounds to heal almost instantly. The next moment, her arm was already straightened, as if it was never damaged in the first place. More bones burst from her skin to cover the previously damaged arm, as if her body itself was making sure that no damage would be done the same way twice.

“…Did she just… Mutate…?” Soul Fist groaned weakly, before unconsciousness took him. The Scarlet Demon tilted her head, checking to see if he was still a threat.

However, more projectiles in the form of fireballs and magic-enhanced arrows flew in her direction. The monster, seeing this, dug her claws down to the ground using her newly reinforced arm, then lifted a huge chunk of the floor, throwing it upward to intercept the projectiles. She then rushed toward the archer, who couldn't react in time, and tackled her, causing her to fly into the wall, crashing beside the recovering Swordmaster Knight.

Pyro Kinetic gritted his teeth as the monster turned to him next. “Oh, don’t you dare—!”

The Scarlet Demon rushed towards him, claws outstretched. Gritting his teeth, Pyro Kinetic readied a fire spell. As the Scarlet Demon leaped up in the air, a small spark of flame manifested on the mage’s hand.

Spellflame: Spark Flare

With a battle cry, Pyro Kinetic threw it straight into the Scarlet Demon’s face, causing a massive explosion that threw the monster back. The force of the explosion was concentrated onto the beast; however, it also tore off a major part of the building as collateral, as reinforced walls shattered along with glass. The other mercenaries were thrown away by the blast as well, crashing into debris in the process.

Pyro Kinetic huffed, dropping to his knee as he caught his breath. He used almost all his power on that attack.

To his horror, as the smoke cleared, he saw the Scarlet Demon still standing, the minor burns on her face rapidly healing. It took a mere moment for her to completely recover.

“Damn it…” The mage said before falling to the ground unconscious.

The Scarlet Demon roared at the unconscious Pyro Kinetic. When she didn’t get a response, she gently nudged him before tilting her head, yet still, no response. Upon making sure that he was no longer a threat, her eyes wandered elsewhere, seeing the other mercenaries too tired to even lift themselves from the ground.

There were no more threats.

Her attention was then turned back on the cylindrical tank.

Without warning, twin beams of light erupted from the monster's eyes, surging directly onto the tank before anyone could react. The beams punched through the glass with terrifying precision, causing it to spill its contents to the floor. Seeing this, the Scarlet Demon walked toward it, looking at the spilled liquid.

That isn’t where the large amount of interference was coming from.

She allowed her senses to extend outward, following the direction where the large volume of interference was coming from. Her senses pointed her upward. That was where it was coming from. From above.

With a mighty leap, she burst through the ceiling, landing on top of the building heavily.

She saw a gem held on what looked like a contraption the size of a small table, connected to tubes coming from below, firing off a beam upward, spreading the interference all around the forest. This was it. This was the source of the noise. It was the source of the static that was blocking her senses.

The Scarlet Demon growled.

With one mighty swing from her bone claws, she tore through the gem and the contraption that held it, destroying it completely. Not satisfied, she tore off the remains, yanking off tubes connecting the gem to the broken glass tank containing the liquid earlier.

She hurled the wreckage into the distance. A final beam from her eyes reduced the remaining fragments to dust.

The noise stopped.

For the first time that day, the Scarlet Demon smiled.

It was quieter, finally.

She liked the quiet. Closing her eyes, she allowed herself to feel the absence of this noise for the first time in a while. She could feel the trees producing a soft sound. Not literal sound, the same one as the static, but cleaner. Beyond the weak signals of the downed mercenaries, she listened to the music of nature, now no longer obscured by the static, allowing herself to relax for a moment.

It was nice and calming, but it wasn’t what she was looking for.

She reached far beyond with her senses again, searching for a signal. A signal that felt familiar. A signal that felt like family. One that was just like her. She tried hard, trying to get a sense of something, of anything.

But there was nothing.

She tried to reach further, yet she could only ever sense more static.

It wasn’t enough that she destroyed one source of interference. There was more. There was always more.

She leaped back onto the ground, then took one last look at the broken building. Scientists crawled away, their coats seared by the earlier explosion. The mercenaries were all down, save for the one covered in iron.

The Scarlet Demon huffed before turning away. She had more interference to destroy after all. Without looking back, she sped into the forest, disappearing from view.

—————————————————————————————————————————

Swordmaster Knight was livid. He never expected it to end like this. Throwing off the debris from himself, he looked around, searching for something. There has to be one of them left; there has to be!

There!

He found one—a communication device, and it wasn’t damaged much either. Perfect!

He crawled toward the device, reaching for it. He then pressed a button on the device, causing an image to pop up. It was an image of a figure clad in white and gold armor.

A female voice echoed from the device. It was firm and strict. “This is Conquest of the Four Horsemen. State your purpose.”

Swordmaster Knight inhaled, nervousness evident in his voice. “…Madame, a Shiddonian Monster managed to destroy one of the Spell Towers…”

Silence.

“Which Tower?” Said the voice from the receiver.

“Tower A7, Madame…”

A pause.

“Of course. How predictable. And here I thought the Monsterslayers were elites among elites?”

“Y-yes but…” Swordmaster Knight swallowed. “…But it was too strong, Madame! It had mutating capabilities and—.”

“All monsters here do. Tell me something I don’t know, soldier.”

The leader of the Monsterslayers went silent.

“Fine. I will be there in a moment. Patch up your teammates. I’ll see to this monster myself.”

“Y-yes, madame…” Swordmaster Knight gulped.

—————————————————————————————————————————

Excerpt from Chapter 2...

In the distance, she could see two figures. One of them was a familiar sight; it was one of the creatures that lived here. It was a 13-foot-tall bird-like beast with a beak filled with sharp teeth, its body completely covered in feathers. But that’s not what caught her attention. It was the other, smaller figure.

The other figure was covered in silver metal lined with gold trimmings. Two horse-like ears were situated on top of the metal covering its head, and on its back was a white, hairy tail. She noted that the tail couldn’t be used as a weapon. However, the legs were powerful, clad in hooves. It emitted a form of signal unlike its adversary.

That’s the one she sensed.

The silver-clad figure drove the larger beast down with its mere hands, slamming it so hard into the ground that it formed a deep crater. In mere moments, the feathered beast ceased moving.

“… And they had trouble with these, they said.” The figure uttered to herself dismissively.

She then kicked the carcass away, sending it crashing into a tree.

“This place is riddled with beasts.” The figure continued.

The Scarlet Demon peered from the tree she was hiding in. The figure had dealt with a creature twice its size without any use of steel blades or stringed wood shooting a projectile. Fighting it is out of the question. Perhaps she can take a different route to avoid this figure.

Making up her mind, the Scarlet Demon turned around. However, as she did, shock immediately overtook her. She felt the signal from earlier vanish.

It had moved somewhere. Somewhere closer.

In front of her was the silver-clad figure.

“Where do you think you’re going, beast?” It spoke.

The Scarlet Demon immediately scrambled, attempting to escape this confrontation, as her hair and claws spiked. However, without any warning, the figure threw a haymaker straight into the monster’s cheek, causing her to slide backward from the force of the blow.

It hurt.

More than any attack she had ever felt before.

The figure wasn’t done.

Immediately following up, the figure sped forward, landing two more savage blows, one at the beast’s side and another at her face, knocking her down to the ground.

https://preview.redd.it/712oxqk8i3hh1.png?width=1494&format=png&auto=webp&s=bafd635f224595ccf12d4d4a0883079355e15709

“Rapid healing and reactive mutation.” Said the figure, analyzing her. “And it's quite faster in comparison to the other beasts I’ve fought here. You must be the monster my subordinates were talking about.”

Having no more choice, the Scarlet Demon began to shift forms once again, growing yet bigger, teeth sharpening. Standing at a height that dwarfed even the figure, her roar resonated across the clearing.

Yet the figure showed no signs of fear.

Why didn’t it run? Why was it not afraid?

“I’m not impressed.” Said the figure.

Two more unarmed strikes landed flush onto the Scarlet Demon’s face, causing her to stumble backward. Intimidation didn’t work. She had to fight now.

Claws were immediately launched forward, raking hard onto the figure’s silver and gold plates, leaving deep gashes into the protective coating. The silver-clad figure spun into a kick that slammed into her face, but she was undeterred. Bone plating rushed to cover the damaged area. She pressed forward, hammering her massive arms onto the opponent’s head that left it dazed for a moment, before spearing it into a takedown.

It wasn’t over yet...

Deep thoughts from the deep with Error for no reason #1 (read body)

(image unrelated, I just think this art of Evil Cherry is funny)

...

So if a character has the ability to steal powers, and their opponent is a character whose entire powers come from their biology... How would that work?

Because could you steal the ability to breathe? The ability to eat? The ability to think?

Like, for example, one character has regeneration from their biology, and it gets stolen by another character?... How does that fucking work? Like... Does it stop the first character from regenerating? Then by that logic the second character should be able to steal the first character's ability to breathe, right?????

Something to think about for all ya'lls with OCs that can steal powers.

This is not that serious btw—

What does Scarlett mean when she says 'So much noise?'

If you've been to my previous post (and holy shii I just slept and woke up with like 200 notifs btw dw kings and queens I'll reply in a bit—), chances are you have seen Scarlett replies with 'So much noise' or something similar.

What does that mean?

Scarlett isn't literally talking about noise as in sound. She doesn't actually have problems with literal noise, like a symbiote.

In actuality, Scarlett has a 6th and 7th sense, which allows her to sense intent and sense the amount of power / energy her opponents have. However, to her, most of those energies feels like static like how it was presented here. Scarlett can't really differentiate that feeling from literal sound, so the moment she feels something has an overwhelming power, energy, or intent, she immediately transforms into her Monstrous Form, and thinks that her adversary is making 'noise.'

Tldr: If she complains that someone makes too much noise, it means she can sense great power and/or killing intent from that person.

Yes, she can also sense those who are suppressing their strength and killing intent.

Mortal Kombat Interaction but with your 🫵 OCs (Scarlett Rose edition) [read body]

Considering that this is a sub about fighting, let's do some pre-fight introductions!

Imagine that your OC and Scarlett are in a Fighting Game (Mortal Kombat, like the title suggests), and your OC and Scarlett were chosen as the fighters! How would the interaction go?

Basically, you write an dialogue for your OC, and I will respond as Scarlett.

Still confused? This vid might help you!

Scarlett's short lore if you need it

>Scarlett, or more commonly known as The Scarlet Demon, is a well known monstrous figure in the harsh ruins of Shiddonia. Known for her monstrous strength, durability, terrifyingly fast regeneration, and the ability to mutate her biology as the fight goes on, Scarlett is infamous, amongst the monsters in Shiddonia. No hunter tried to stop her, and other monsters found in Shiddonia would leave upon sensing her.

>She also has the ability to transform into her Monstrous Form, a form that makes her larger and more terrifying, equipped with more weapons and mutations.

So, how does your OC interact with Scarlett Rose?

Hanzo Hanakage Art — Scarlett Rose Chronicles

I don't want to lore drop him cause he'll appear in Scarlett Rose Chronicles, but I loved drawing this art so I'll post it anyway—

His name is Hanzo Hanakage, the leader of the Blood Ninjas!

Time taken for the art to finish: 8 hours and 4 minutes. (Which is funny because I absolutely procastinated this art—)

Which of your 🫵 OCs Aura Farm Unnecessarily

Title.

Also, why do they do it?

~•~•~

For my OCs, two of my biggest Aura Farmers has got to be Rae, and Higanbana.

Rae Aura Farms accidentally, because of her indifferent attitude and cold demeanor, especially early on. She would rather Aura Farm because realistically, nothing can really get through her Aura.

Higanbana intentionally Aura Farms to ragebait opponents weaker than her, often to demonstrate the gap in power between herself and her opponent. She is intentionally arrogant, but she's not overconfident. Although rightfully so, as she is the strongest in her group, and potentially almost everyone else, actually.

Crossing The 4th Dimension

Author's notes:

Dimensions have always been a fascinating topic to me. As such, this idea is basically how I interpret higher dimensions to be like.

~•~•~

The Fourth Dimension

The Fourth Spatial Dimension in the Eclipse-verse, also known as the W-Axis, hyperaxis, or hyperspace, is an imperceptible direction or axis that exists in the physics of the verse.

Parallel Universes and the Fourth Dimension

According to studies about the Fourth Dimension, the W-Axis acts as a separate direction from the three dimensional axis—length, width, and height (or the X-axis, Y-axis, and the Z-axis). This Axis essentially connects entire Parallel Universes onto each other without them even knowing that the others exist.

To illustrate, think of it as two 2D squares in a 3D space separated by the 3rd Dimension, length. The 2D Squares, only having access to the X and Y Axes, cannot cross toward each other because they have no concept of Z-Axis, and as such, cannot even perceive each other.

Similarly, 3D beings cannot perceive the 4th dimension, aka, the W-Axis, hence, they will not be aware of the other Parallel Universes even if the other Universe is 1 W-Axis units away from it.

Such is the balance of the Multiverse of the Eclipse-verse.

Traversing the Fourth Dimension

It is entirely possible for 3D entities to cross the Fourth Dimension, even if they cannot perceive this. This is thanks to the power of Meta-Energies.

Meta-Energies, short for metaphysical energies, ignore the concepts of dimensional limitations outright. As such, those with the power to wield this energies can do things otherwise impossible for others. One such feat is crossing the Fourth Dimension. With Meta-Energy, it is possible to create a hyperspace gate that can allow a 3-Dimensional person to cross the Fourth Dimension and end up in a different Parallel Universe, for example. Abilities like Hanzo's refined Rift Cutting Slash, Scarlett's Space Break, and even machines like Cherry's Dimensional Transport Machine™ could allow this.

Note: This does not automatically grant the user the power to destroy an infinite number of 3-Dimensional Universes, nor does this mean they're 4-Dimensional. This simply means that the users are bending physics itself to cross the 4th Dimension as 3D beings.

Gaian bytes #1 - Ivory Rose

Gaian Bytes - A bit of lore flavor for the settings of Scarlett Rose Chronicles (the Eclipse-verse) that won't necessarily appear or be important to the main stories.

Ivory Rose

Profile

True name: Unknown.

Entity type: Paradoxan

Threat level: ??? | Currently harmless

Description:

The entity known as Ivory Rose appears in different faces, oftentimes mimicking the appearance of a person from the Rose Lineage.

The form it takes is often pale, with only purple as its color. It has hollow eye sockets with purple lights coming from within, acting as its 'eyes.'

~•~•~

Short story:

The entity is believed to have originated from the Inverse Plane's lower layers. While entities from the surface layers of Inverse are often harmless phantom images of the original, entities from the lower layers tend to be distorted and broken, as well as conscious. These lower layer entities are called Paradoxans, for their almost paradoxical existence as reflections of reflections. Ivory Rose is suggested to have come from the lowest layer of Inverse.

The threats of these Paradoxans were considered very low because one cannot escape the lower level Inverse Planes. Any layer beyond the third is something you cannot go back from, after all. Likewise, these entities cannot breach the third layer.

...Until recently, that is.

The Paradoxan that was later dubbed Ivory Rose was spotted on the second layer of the Inverse Plane. Reports suggest that it appears whenever one stares at the mirror too long, that their reflection begins to change into a distorted form. Most reports came from members of the Rose lineage, and non-Rose lineage people claimed that nothing happened.

Its threat level is currently unknown, and reports of the entity's appearance are only found in Terraglacies last two weeks ago.

Claims suggest it currently takes the form of the CEO of Rose Tech Inc, Cherry Rose.

- From the reports of Elias, Inaxian journalist.
