My rating - 9/10
The story was fast paced which made sure there would be no boring episodes though it might be a problem for some to keep up as a lot kept happening in every episode. Inspite of its pacing it was quite impossible to integrate a 700 chapter novel into a 36 ep drama, so we missed out on a lot of Xihe and Huayong partnering up to solve problems. Cinematography, lighting, directing, story, and acting was really good if not the best but my only complain about the show and deducting the rating is the rushed ending. Even with the special episode they failed to sum up Huayong's >!return!< properly. Thank the novel readers for explaining it to me properly.
However, the casting of this drama was a work of art. Bu Shulin is the best cross dressing I've seen in a costume drama so far where you actually couldn't tell that it was a WOMAN. She was such a baddie. Loved her but at the end she did lose her identity as the heir to the Marquis, albeit, I'm so glad she could finally fight and command troops with her true self, as a woman, a huge W in the ancient times.
He Yu has inevitably won me over with his portrayal of Crown Prince Xiao Huayong. His shenanigans as the frail poisoned Crown Prince while being the manipulator and controller behind the scenes were perfect. That few second switch from frail to cunning along with the expressions showcase how good of an actor He Yu is! Also, who doesn't love a yearner? His antics infront of his brothers to show off Xihe's "love" had me ROFL. Started the show after watching that shirtless clip and stayed for his downbadism lol 😂
Meng Ziyi had real good chemistry with He Yu after Yunrui. And I beg to differ to those who say that it was similar to Blossom. It wasn't a rebirth story, but a body where 2 people's soul merged and created a new unique version of Shen Xihe. Ziyi's acting when Huayong >!dies!< was phenomenal. Her gut wrenching cries are still echoing in my head. And the aftermath was too painful to watch. God bless the makers for the special episode.
Blossoms of Power is definitely my top cdrama of 2026 after Pursuit of Jade. Sorry if I rambled too much, but I would love to hear your opinions
Lately, been obsessed with Blossoms of Power and these two aren't helping at all
Coincidentally, I came across TLORC while deciding what to do in the meantime while waiting for new episodes of MoLi/The First Jasmine and Never Ending Summer. And I gotta say considering the angst/ emotionally heavy scenes these 2 dramas are serving rn, TLORC is such a light hearted drama. A breath of fresh air if you wanna watch something to laugh about or unwind after a heavy day.
TLORC has a star studded cast with Zeng Shunxi, Li Yitong, Deng Wei, Tian Jiarui, Dai Luwa and many others. Besides, if you loved How Dare You then you'll def like TLORC. The story is filled with comedy, romance, palace politics, and mysteries and centers around a city lord, his wife and how he has been made an incompetent ruler by power ambitious officials. Personally, I'm loving the cinematography as well.
I'm dropping in some pics for you to judge. I hope you will like it.
Tencent, Youku and iQiyi have all released new posters about most of their upcoming dramas set to premiere either this year or the next. And on the occasion of Chinese Valentine's Day we have all got lots of new materials to keep us busy and gushing.
Personally, I'm mad excited about these dramas (in no particular order) :-
• Dancing With The Tide (Lu Yuxiao × Tan Jianci)
• Tigers Sniff the Rose (Meng Ziyi × Li Yunrui)
• Moli, renamed as The First Jasmine in English (Bai Lu × Cheng Lei)
• My Queen, My Rules (Shen Yujie × Ao Ruipeng)
• Overdo (Wang Churan × Zhang Linghe)
• Blossoms of Power (Meng Ziyi × He Yu)
• Lament of Autumn (Xu Ruohan × Cheng Lei)
• Sea of No Return ( Liu Xiening × Li Yunrui)
• Where the Mask Ends (Tian Xiwei × Yan An)
• Love Has Fireworks (Wang Churan × Tan Jianci)
• A Love Confession (Deng Enxi × Wang Xingyue)
Tell me about yours so that I can add them to my watchlist !!
Yesterday, 13th May, 2026, marked the 1 year anniversary of TPOB. I've seen it getting recommended and talked about a lot in this sub, so I assume a lot of people have liked it. If you've interacted with me before you would know how obsessed I was with it at one point because it was my 1st ever cdrama.
Thus, I would love to revisit those memories, and hear your micro interpretations, or observations of scenes, or your opinions of what could have been different.
I miss shaoman and I really hope they work on another project together even though the hope seems bleak. But for now, I would love to look into your fav memory of the show.
