A (probably) useless bit of (possibly related) trivia
I accidentally discovered today that there was a American poet/novelist named Elizabeth Stoddard nee Drew ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Drew_Stoddard ).
Her husband was born in Massachusetts (are bells starting to ring for anyone yet?), whose own father was a sea-captain (ding-ding-ding!).
I just wonder which writer of the show it was that knew any one of the above writers and decided to use their (parts of) names and history to create Ben Cartwright's and Adam's back story.
Btw, this is Elizabeth..... happy lady won't you say?
