I recently received a Courtesy Warning Notice from the Virginia State Police for having exceeded the speed limit while driving on Interstate I-81. I was going 67 in a 55 mph zone. The speed excess was captured through an automated monitoring system in a Work Zone. I simply wanted to weigh-in that, firstly, I think it is a good thing that such a monitoring system is installed as it is intended to protect highway workers. But also, I believe the warning notice demonstrates that the objective here is to maximize adherence to safety rules and regulations and not just a money making scheme; they could have simply levied a $100 fine. Instead, I will be mindful of checking my speed when entering a Work Zone.
