What's the minimum acreage you actually need to be self-sufficient?

I've been researching this a lot lately. Some people say 1-2 acres is enough with the right setup, others say you need 5+ for real food independence. What's your experience? Does it depend more on the land or the person?

Came across a listing in Dyersburg, Tennessee — 3 bed, move-in ready, $78K. Property tax is $628 a year.

Genuinely curious what people here would do with something like that. Use it as a homestead base? Rent it out? Too remote to be practical?

What's the catch I'm not seeing?

Been researching affordable land and stumbled on something wild —

63 acres in the Mississippi Delta for $45,000 total. That's less

than $715 per acre.

Old farmhouse on the property, needs work, but the bones are there.

For someone wanting to actually homestead — what would you prioritize

first with that much land? Fencing? Water? Clearing?

Genuinely curious what experienced homesteaders would do with a

blank slate like that.
