Trying to join the Army Reserve — am I being unreasonable about asking for a DOD SAFE link?

I’m currently working with a recruiter who’s about 6 months into the job. During our in-person meeting, they admitted they were still learning the process, which I completely understand and I’m trying to be patient with.

That said, there have been a few things that made me hesitant:

I usually have to follow up myself to confirm appointments

They seemed very focused on my practice ASVAB score

They frequently asked nearby recruiters for help navigating the recruiting portal

Another recruiter nearby mentioned DOD SAFE was the preferred way to send sensitive documents

My recruiter originally wanted me to send documents like my SSN card, birth certificate, and passport directly to their u/army.mil email. I wasn’t comfortable with that and asked for a DOD SAFE link instead.

They eventually said they sent one, but I never received it (checked spam/junk too). When I followed up about it, the response was basically “I don’t know,” without much effort to troubleshoot or resend it.

So I’m trying to figure out:

Am I pushing too hard by insisting on DOD SAFE?

Is sending sensitive documents directly to a recruiter’s military email considered normal/acceptable?

Would you recommend I continue with this recruiter or try working with someone else?

Appreciate any insight from recruiters or current/former reservists.

I've been going through the application process for air force reserves for over 1-month now. My recruiter was about to submit my application paperwork but then stated that my prior substance history disqualified my application.

I thought I disclosed my full substance history during the initial interview process and the recruiter didn't have a problem with it at that time. My last illicit substance was back in 2015 during college (marijuana, cocaine).

Reading around, there seems to be mixed messages regarding waivers and time between substance use and application. I'm assuming that the prior cocaine usage is the primary issue.

I have been unable to receive any clarification from my recruiter as they have ended all communication after sending me the rejection message.

Wondering if there's any possibility that I can re-apply at a later date or if my prior substance use is going to invalidate any application attempts?

I understand why this is happening but just curious what are my options and if there's any hope I can get into the military with my prior history?

Note: I'm attempting to apply as an registered nurse, BSN degree, no prior military history. Also have Hx of anxiety/depression, not on anti-depressants.
