At a loss on where to start with making my garden nice
Hi all,
Hoping for a bit of advice or suggestions on what I can do with my garden please.
I moved into my new house around 6 months ago now and we have astroturf and a bit of paving. Initially I thought this would be ok, low maintenance etc, but weeds are sprouting everywhere which I understand to mean it was not laid very well in the first place or something? It’s generally not very appealing to look at and I’d like to do something better with it.
My initial plan was to rip it up and plant clover instead but once I pulled up a corner, it’s concrete underneath. I have no idea if this is thin enough for me to take a sledgehammer to myself or if I will need something more heavy duty.
My budget is tight - I cannot afford to hire anyone to do this for me so will be doing this all myself. I have cats and am working on a Catio so we can all enjoy being outside together so it’s important that whatever I do is generally cat friendly too. I don’t want to cover the garden with anything that’s outright toxic for them etc
I’d love to have a splash of colour and I’ve been thinking about planters for growing some small fruit plants like strawberries etc and rhubarb (would rhubarb even survive in a planter?)
I don’t know where to start and what realistically my options are with a tight budget and I’m hoping you can all point me in the right direction to get me started. Thanks in advance!
tdlr: my garden sucks and I don’t know where to start making it better
