UniSQ Law + Accounting double degree — worth finishing or drop Accounting for fast-track LLB + UniMelb LLM for corporate/M&A/IP career?
I’m a current student at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) doing the double degree Bachelor of Laws + Bachelor of Accounting. My end goal is to become a corporate lawyer specialising in M&A or IP, ideally at a good firm in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.
I have three main options and would love advice from practising lawyers or recent grads:
- Finish the full double degree and go straight into a “normal” corporate law role + PLT.
- Drop Accounting, fast-track the LLB, do UniMelb LLM (Corporate or IP), then PLT.
- Drop Accounting, fast-track LLB, complete PLT and get admitted first, then do UniMelb LLM (part-time or after 1-2 years PQE).
I don’t care much about cost or time as long as it gives me the best shot at a strong corporate/M&A or IP career.
Questions:
• Which path would you recommend and why?
