Hi r/dresden,

I am moving from India to Dresden to start my PhD in physics/materials science at IFW Dresden / TU Dresden starting October 1st, 2026.

I knew the housing market ahead of the winter semester was competitive, but searching remotely from another country has proven really difficult! Many listings require in-person viewings, so I wanted to reach out to the local community directly for any leads, sublets, or advice.

What I am looking for:

• A room in a shared apartment (WG) or a 1-room studio/apartment.
• Long-term lease or a temporary sublet (Zwischenmiete) to start, as long as city registration (Anmeldung) is possible.
• Preferred areas: Anywhere with good transit access to the university / IFW area (Südvorstadt, Plauen, Altstadt, Löbtau, Strehlen, Striesen, Neustadt, etc.).

About me:

• Fully funded doctoral researcher (guaranteed monthly salary; employment pre-contract and all required documents ready).
• Non-smoker, clean, quiet, and easygoing flatmate.
