Upgraded Sportage Shocks - Update

Hey everyone,

I posted a few weeks ago about the situation with the stock shocks and how Truxxx created a new extension for those with a body lift.

As I said; I have their 2” body kit and the stock shocks leaked and completely failed almost immediately after putting them on. The added weight of my rooftop tent obviously didn’t help, but the owner of the shop I had install the lift was close with the owner of Truxxx.

Long story short, they created 50 shock extender kits that don’t currently have an associated part number, but if you’re planning on doing a similar build, you can reach out to secure a pair. They also included it on their 2 inch body lift kit on their website to ensure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Additionally for reference, I have KYB Excel-G shocks on the car now, which the extenders fit nicely. I can’t confirm exactly which shocks I have on my car now from the few excel-G models I found online, but I’ll try to get that information.

Here’s the link to the kit with the new extenders. https://www.truxxx.com/product/2023-2026-kia-sportage-x-line-2022-2026-hyundai-tucson-xrt-2-0-front-and-2-0-rear-lift-kit-with-shock-shaft-extensions-304058/

2025 Sportage Overland Build - Shocks

This is going to be a somewhat long winded message, but I wanted to share the recent (somewhat wild) success story I had with my 2025 Sportage and the plan I’ve had for an overland build for a few years now.

I bought the Sportage with the intention of putting a small lift, upgraded suspension, and entry overland gear to use as my family’s little adventure rig. I got the rooftop tent (Arct Wonder), OVS 270 degree awning, and 4 roof racks for added stability. I then got a Truxxx spacer lift kit, and the story begins.

After putting on the spacers, I figured I would eventually need to upgrade the shocks to support the new suspension travel and added weight, however, within 2 days, the shocks were leaking and the passenger side had completely blown out. I figured I would need to eventually replace the shocks anyways, however, I was shocked (no pun intended) that they blew out without me doing anything but pavement driving. Not to mention, there isn’t an aftermarket for this setup, and the shop I had it in was getting creative as they could, but nothing was lining up.

Long story short, the owner of the shop here in Colorado Springs is friends with the owner of Truxxx, who communicated the issue to Kia. Apparently, the shocks is a nationwide issue, and because of my car, they are taking a forward stance on recalling the shocks. Additionally, Truxxx decided to make an extension on some KYB shocks the shop found, and are currently the only aftermarket long travel shocks fit for a 2 inch lift on the 25 Sportage.

TLDR; if you’re planning on doing a similar build, let me know and I’ll try to share everything I can on what I did and the parts I have installed. I love the build and I genuinely love this car. I don’t know what the restrictions on spam are in this subreddit, but I want to share the name of the shop I got it done with, because it’s amazing.
