Do you use your own leashes?

Hi Y’all! Happy Friday!

I was considering buying my own leash to use, but wondered whether that is a good idea or it will just end up useless?

My main pros are:

  1. Avoid any stress if it gets lost/ damaged.
  2. Mainly, I can ensure the leashes are strong and good quality, don’t have to worry about them breaking off if a dog is a puller.

My cons-ish are:

  1. I walk and look after dogs of very different sizes- eg I look after mini doxxies, maltipoos but also Bernese Mountain Dogs, Samoyeds, Huskies. I know a leash can’t ever be too strong, but different dogs have different lengths of leashes.
  2. Every dog I look after has a different/ particular leash and I don’t want to undo any specific training the owner is doing.
  3. A very large majority of dogs I look after are NOT allowed off leash so then they have much longer/ flexi leashes. On the other hand, I walk a few reactive dogs who I prefer to have on a much shorter leash.

So far, after over a year of dog-sitting I have been using my clients’ leashes due to all reasons listed above, but recently started walking a reactive-ish Lab that’s VERY big and strong and I often worry his owner’s leash is not sturdy enough🥲. My main worry is that one day it will break off and he will either run away or get attacked by another dog.

Look forward to your opinions,

Have a lovely weekend y’all!
