Vivaldi Appreciation Post
I’ve gotten so fed up with AI slop being added to literally everything, that I’ve spent a significant amount of time the last 6 months moving much of my work over to Linux.
I’ve been putting up with a generic chromium browser, along with chrome on my machines a work. But we’ve gotten to the point where chrome now is sideloading a 4 GB model on your computer and the generic chromium still has all kinds of the AI stuff built into it that you have to go try and disable with flags.
I’m so sick of it that I went wandering around the Arch wiki looking to see what my other web browser options are. Vivaldi was available in the main repo, and after looking into I see they took an official stance against AI enslopification in their browser.
Sold. Let’s give it a try.
After using it for nearly a week, it’s pretty awesome! I’ve now converted all my devices over to Vivaldi.
Dear Vivaldi team, please don’t ever change. …from what I can tell your the only major browser left (that’s easy to install/update or available in the main package manager repositories) that hasn’t shoved a bunch of AI “features” into your product that are difficult or near impossible to disable.
