I'm a visiting undergrad trying to do research with a stanford prof. Do I have to pay?
Visiting undergrad in the sense I'm a US resident, I'm in the Bay, attend a 4 year college, but not taking any classes (Not international in need of housing or tuition assistance).
I looked into the visiting scholar programs and just realized there are additional fees. I already told the professor I’d be willing to work unpaid, but if I actually have to pay out of pocket to do it, that’s a lot harder to justify. I also do not want to push that expense onto the professor, since they may not be willing or able to cover it.
My main concern is whether I would need official affiliation just to get basic things like building access or an ID card. Does anyone have experience with this?
TLDR: Is there any way to be a non-Stanford visiting researcher and still get some level of building access without having to go through a program with fees?
