Already working an assignment, but got asked morning of to work somewhere else?
Hello! I am a sub of 1.5 years, and I’m aware this is a normal issue. Some teachers call out day of and the sub coordinators scramble to get coverage in the morning….
I am a fully certified visual arts teacher who is subbing while chasing that full time art teaching gig. The high school sub coordinator sometimes texts me and tells me that one of their art teachers is out the day of, and you’d think that’s my cue to swoop in and save the day, but…. I’m already scheduled for an assignment. Sometimes two, for AM and PM at different schools. Sooooo it’s awkward.
In my district, it’s also mandatory to call the school(s) day of if you cancel your assignment, which only adds to the awkwardness IMO.
So, what should I do? I really really want to take the art job every time, but I feel guilty thinking about calling my assignments and telling them I’m backing out. 🥲🥲🥲🥲
