Yaesu G450A Issue
Hoping for some insight:
The needle on my G450A control unit recently started jumping/dragging, and has gotten worse in the last week.
Some diagnostic info:
- Happens mostly in the SE section while traveling counterclockwise. It’s not as bad in the other quadrants.
- The needle will sometimes swing the opposite direction briefly
- As soon as I let off the paddle, it snaps to the beam’s true heading.
- The beam antenna on the rotor is rotating smoothing in it’s full range of motion and isn’t jumping like this.
- Trying to work it out by rotating back and forth seems to help some, but very little, and is back to the same issue the next day.
Additional Info:
- The rotor and beam are both in an attic, not exposed to anything but hot/cold/humidity
- The rotor, control unit, and cable are all less than 12 months old.
I’m likely going to have to open some things up, but would appreciate some insight on what the issue may most likely be.
