Liberty University told me I was ready to graduate, now they’re saying I’m missing 3 upper-level credits
Has anyone else had a university tell them they were ready to graduate, only to later find out they still needed another class?
I’m a student at Liberty University. Earlier this year, I had 115 credits remaining toward my degree. I worked with advising to determine what I still needed, and I was told that completing my final two recommended courses would fulfill the remaining requirements needed to confer my degree.
Based on that guidance, I went through the approval process, registered for the courses, and paid for them.
However, after completing those two courses, I found out that instead of receiving my degree, I may still need an additional upper-level elective to graduate. This came as a complete surprise because I was never informed of this requirement when I worked with advising to determine what courses I needed to finish my degree.
I’ve submitted a Beacon complaint and am currently waiting for a decision, but I’m curious if anyone else has experienced something similar.
If so:
What was the outcome?
Did the university make an exception or correction?
Did you have to appeal to a dean, registrar, or another office?
Was there anything that helped your case?
I’m just looking to hear from others who have dealt with a similar graduation or degree audit issue.
