Custom T9 Keyboard

So as the name says, I had the idea to make a custom T9 keyboard for my heltec v3. I had seen the cardKB and figured I could make something smaller and less convenient pretty easily. And so far it has been easy!
I put this circuit together, had claude generate some code for my C3, confirmed it’s working correctly in the serial monitor, and then tried to connect the SDA and SCL pins of the two boards.
This is where the problems began.
When I connect the two boards, the heltec v3 takes forever to boot/reboot. I also can’t get the canned message setting to actually be set to the cardKB option on the app (ios). Whenever I save the selection, it takes forever to reboot and is reverted back to “manual configuration” when it comes back.
I would post the code but I’m away from my computer and it works great so I don’t want to change too much. It’s basically just setup to operate like a standard T9 which only sends the confirmed digits to the heltec, mimicking a cardKB. The only code possibility I can think of is that it prints “meshtastic keyboard ready” when it boots up and this could be confusing the heltec.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
