I'm trying to figure out what's happening with contracts in my franchise.

For example, my QB wants a bonus of 50 million on top of a salary of 25 million.

If I spread this over 7 years, the contract screen shows that it's evenly distributed. The first year he should only be about a 65m cap hit.

But then after signing, that first year becomes an 85m cap hit.

Is this because the game doesn't actually apply contracts in this smooth/evened way? Is the contract screen lying basically – and the game takes the whole bonus and then distributes it across the first five years only?

What positions have you noticed regress slower than the others in defense?

I've seen that MIKE linebackers regress from age 29.

But edge defenders seem to regress around 31, and the regression seems to not hit them very hard at all.

Do we know any details about how these actually work?

Is it possible to improve your chances of getting them?

Do some positions get them more than others?

Does anything prevent you from getting them?

Are there any positions that don't get storylines for dev upgrades during the season?

Or in theory, can any position get them?
