KB5089549 Entirely breaks SMB2
Hello, I write today with a relatively obscure setup. I manage a team of developers who target the NetBSD operating system, but due to developer comfort, ease of tooling, and administrative restrictions we use windows to write the code on (trust me I hate this too). Yesterday after updating to I KB5089549 have noticed any requests to a Samba 4.21.7 server (which worked just fine prior to updating) now takes upwards of 30-40 seconds. This is unacceptable, and even with three hours of troubleshooting I do not understand why this is suddenly broken.
My understanding is that this security update changed how oplocks are handled and requires more , but I spent the day attempting and failing to remediate the issue. It's problems like this that push users, even institutional users, towards MacOS/Linux.
Not sure if this helps anyone out, but I figured to note it down incase anyone else has experienced a similar baffling issue, rather than suffering in silence.
