Seriously thinking about moving to Nam!
Hey what’s up guys! So I’m a 41 year old father and husband from South Texas.
My wife is a school nurse and I am fully disabled at the young age of 41 due to my body breaking down over almost 20 years in a power plant role. Made good $, but it cost me my quality of life.
Long story short, being on SSDI and having that income able to transfer to Vietnam is a HUGE bonus.
We have a home we own and currently have about $200,000USD in equity that we plan on selling and using for our move so we have a while to worry about income, if we need more.
We also have several possessions we’d sell. I believe we’d have around $3-400,000USD to bring with us.
I have 3 kids. Our youngest is 13 and would obviously come with us. My kids from a previous marriage are 17 (almost 18) and 14. We would do this move, after my daughter hits 18… It’s going to be SO hard to say goodbye :/
We plan on booking a trip to Da Nang VERY soon and will stay about 2 weeks to get our feet wet. We plan on “living” the way we would if we moved there so we can get a feel of the cost of living, at least dining out, taxis and other city life expenses besides rent and utilities.
Any words of encouragement from anyone or should we rethink this? My wife and I are sick of the bogus healthcare cost, I have had 13 knee surgeries, 4 on my back, both elbows fixed and need at LEAST 2 more major spine surgeries to be “fixed.” Just can’t afford it here in the states like I could when I was fully employed with great benefits.
Anything else we should consider or reconsider? Thanks and I can’t wait to meet and talk with you all!
