How do I stop picking colors like a kid in a candy store?
I consider myself to be a pretty talented professional designer, with many impressive projects under my belt in a variety of fields.
But when it comes to brands, themes, or semantic colors for a design system, I seem to always gravitate towards the brightest most saturated versions of well known color categories.
I was probably inspired in my formative years by by the kinds of things Google and some other tech companies got going on where they have those four bright colors and remix them in their app logos. I also just enjoy bright saturated colors in general. Pastels, earthy tones, and other stuff like that were just never my thing. And that's great when it comes to personal opinions about colors, but when it comes to designing stuff, even personal stuff, I feel like I lack depth and range.
Recently I've been theming my Linux setup, and trying to pick a [base16](https://github.com/chriskempson/base16) color spread, but my choices are just so gaudy when you actually put them into the system and use them. I've been drawing inspiration from other popular base 16 themes, and understanding the process behind them which has really helped, but I also wanted to put this problem of mine into words and get all of your advice as well.
