Is it possible to get out of my lease?

My lease is almost up (thank god), and I have another place lined up, but I need to get out of here sooner than I thought.

Today I woke up to banging in the laundry room (right outside of my apartment) and soon discovered that holes had been hammered into my wall… not only that, but sewage waste leaked into my closet (onto my belongings). I was not informed that anyone would be doing this? For context, there has been a sewage leak for 2+ weeks, and plumbers have been here the last few days working on the issue in the laundry room.

I contacted my landlord about the holes, she said she was aware, and then asked for pictures. I sent pictures over and explained that bugs and sewage waste have both entered my apartment, to which I received no response. She assured me that they would fix the issue after they wrapped up, but the plumbers left with no fix made. After I realized no one was coming to fix it, I called my landlord several times… which like my texts, she did not answer.

Needless to say this is a pretty shitty situation (no pun intended, although you should see the amount of feces on the ground in the laundry room right now) if anyone has any advice on helping me break the lease, let me know please. It took them so long to start doing anything about the leak, and now my apartment is opened up for anyone in the laundry room to see

thanks kalamazoo property management

Update 1: I called the city 😼👍

Update 2: management says “these things just happen” about the holes being put in my wall with no warning, says I have to wait 4 days for the hole to be patched.
