Need advice for a live hardware MIDI setup (Octatrack + RM1X + Roland gear)
Current setup:
Elektron Octatrack MKII (master sequencer / master clock)

Yamaha RM1X

Roland TR-8

Roland SH-32

Waldorf Pulse 2

Roland MC-808

TD-3

I want the Octatrack to be the central brain/master clock for the whole rig.

My main issue:
I want the Yamaha RM1X to receive ONLY MIDI clock/start/stop, but NOT note or sequencer data.

From what I understand, the RM1X has limited MIDI filtering capabilities, and I’m running into problems with unwanted sequencing/transport behavior.

I’m now looking into MIDI processors/routers/hubs like:
Blokas Midihub

Conductive Labs MRCC

iConnectivity mioXM

Questions:
What would be the best MIDI router/processor for this kind of live hardware setup?

Is there a reliable way to make the RM1X receive ONLY clock?

How would you structure MIDI routing for this setup?

Any experience with MIDI timing/jitter using older Yamaha/Roland gear together with Elektron devices?

Trying to avoid:
MIDI loops

daisy chaining

timing drift

double triggering

Would love to hear from people running similar hardware rigs

Hey everyone, I’m planning to build a live underground house setup and I’m seriously considering the Octatrack MK2 as the centerpiece. Would love some feedback from people with real experience.

My current gear:
• Yamaha RM1X
• Roland SH-32
• Roland TR-8
• Behringer TD-3
• Roland MC-808
• Waldorf Pulse 2
• Crest Audio X20R mixer

What I want to do:

• Record realtime loops from my synths, let them run, and move on to the next element

• Use the Octatrack as MIDI clock master for all my hardware (currently using Ableton as clock and getting a lot of latency)

• Not everything needs to go through the Octatrack audio-wise .I’ll use aux sends from the Crest to feed the Octatrack inputs only for what I want to loop

• Use scenes and patterns for arrangement and energy buildups

My questions:

• Any tips for using the Pickup Machine in a live house context?

• Anything I should know about this setup before pulling the trigger?

I’m willing to put in the time to learn it properly. Thanks in advance!
