I ranked every penultimate Rush track from every album

19. Tai Shan

18. Rivendell

17. Before And After

16. Wish Them Well

15. Red Lenses

14. Hand Over Fist

13. Neurotica

12. Madrigal

11. Limbo

10. Tears

9. Cold Fire

8. Malignant Narcissism

7. Freeze

6. Different Strings

5. Emotion Detector

4. The Necromancer

3. Witch Hunt

2. Losing It

1. The Trees

As you can tell from the list, I am generally biased towards the older albums. But I do think most of the newer Rush tracks are great too.

A few notes:

I have Tears in 10th because I think it's an underrated gem.

The Trees is just a lovely track to listen to regularly.

I particularly love that violin section on Losing It, Rush were absolutely still progressive if not the peak of their progressiveness on Signals.

I ranked every Rush Album Closer

Important Note: All of these are amazing, even those lower down are great.

19. You Bet Your Life

18. Carve Away the Stone

17. We Hold On

16. Everyday Glory

15. Out of the Cradle

14. High Water

13. The Fountain of Lamneth

12. Something For Nothing

11. Mystic Rhythms

10. Vital Signs

9. Working Man

8. In The End

7. Countdown

6. The Garden

5. Available Light

4. Between The Wheels

3. Natural Science

2. La Villa Strangiato

1. Cygnus X-1 Book I

A few small notes: Cygnus X-1 is pure genius and it has to be in number 1 for me. Countdown to me has to be one of the more underrated Rush tracks, the Synth solo on it is amazing. Mystic Rhythms will always be one of the coolest Neil Peart rhythms, it's unique and iconic without being overly complex. I have mixed feelings about High Water, on one sense it's very creative but on the other it isn't as punchy or catchy as some of the other ones here. When I was younger, I would have put The Fountain of Lamneth higher since I like the more creative Rush songs. However it's a little over indulgent in its sections and doesn't have enough good and concise songwriting within it. Something For Nothing is a fan favourite however doesn't do anything really special for me, especially compared to older classics in this list like Working Man or In The End.

I ranked every 2nd Rush track on every album

Most of these 2nd tracks are very good, this was tough.

19. Need Some Love

18. Chain Lightning

17. I Think I'm Going Bald

16. Circumstances

15. Ceiling Unlimited

14. Bravado

13. Armor and Sword

12. A Passage To Bankok

11. Time Stand Still

10. Best I Can

9. BU2B

8. Grand Designs

7. Afterimage

6. Stick It Out

5. Driven

4. Red Barchetta

3. Freewill

2. The Analog Kid

1. Xanadu

A few notes: Xanadu is just amazing. That guitar solo to Analog Kid is one of Alex's best. Best I Can might be controversial but I love Alex's guitar riffs here, it's just such a fun track. Not sure what to do with Circumstances as it's a fun little track on Hemispheres, but ultimately it is the filler track of the album so it can't compare to a lot of the tracks here.

I ranked every Rush Album Opener.

This wasn't easy since every opener is great.

19. Dreamline

18. Show Don't Tell

17. Finding My Way

16. One Little Victory

15. Force Ten

14. Far Cry

13. Bastille Day

12. Big Money

11. Distant Early Warning

10. Caravan

9. Test For Echo

8. Cygnus Book II

7. Animate

6. 2112

5. Subdivisions

4. Anthem

3. A Farewell To Kings

2. Spirit of the Radio

1. Tom Sawyer

A few notes: Maybe Tom Sawyer in number one is predictable but it was definitely the perfect opener, I just remember the first time hearing it 10 years ago. I like Cygnus Book II of course but as an opener it isn't as good as some of the others. Where I put Test For Echo may get me some hate, but it has a very memorable riff and an awesome solo: a great start to that album. I wanted to put One Little Victory higher but there are other tracks on that album that would have made for a better opener in my opinion.
