I started shopping for a new mattress for myself (5'3" 140#) and my husband (6'2" 240#) and have landed on split king to replace our existing S-brand non-split king memory foam hybrid that has seen better days. We are thinking about full latex for better longevity and support - and split so it can be customized a bit for each very different body. Pursuant to everyone's advice on here, we headed to our local midwest mattress store/factory (Lebeda, in case anyone was wondering) to try out their mattresses and I left more confused than I started.
The store manager told me they don't make full latex mattresses because those would be too soft to sleep on. Instead they have several hybrids with Talalay to choose from, many of which have a 4-6" latex pillow top. I truly didn't know what to say to this. He was very light on details about the coils underneath, telling me one of their floor samples had firm coils and the other had medium.
This whole "100% latex mattresses are too soft" thing is a bunch of crap, right?
I asked about adjustable base compatibility. We don't have bases yet but will probably get the ergomotion 5.0 twin xl. Of course I lied and said I already had them and he asked what kind they were and I replied that they were ergomotion and he said it was good they weren't tempurpedic because it's harder to adjust the edge support rods for those bases. Uh doesn't ergo make the temper bases?
Feel like I should just proceed with my original plan to order from SleepEZ or somewhere similar, but want a gut check to make sure I'm not missing anything.
