your lie in april's handling of abuse is terrible.
recently finished ylia, thought it was brilliant and definitely cried a few nights after the ending... however, one part that will never sit right with me is how saki arima is treated.
I speak on this so seriously because my own mother was so similar to her that it is honestly disturbing, she would beat me when i played wrong notes or gave attitude, then go on about how she wanted me to love and appreciate music and how every good pianist needs to go through something like this. And this is exactly the excuse that the show uses to justify saki's actions, and just like the show, its saki's and my mothers way of gaslighting themselves into believing that they are brilliant parents who only want the best for their children. Good intent or not, physical abuse and gaslighting is honestly just disgusting and just like for kousei, it made me quit the piano for a quite long time (before i picked it up again after watching this show :).
