tldr: 3.5/10

I know there have been a few posts about this before and I'd like to let teachers get an honest review of what it's like to work at lingo ace, now ace academy. I used to work there, for roughly one year, and here is a quick pro/con list. My goal/hope is that lingoace may see this and improve, because they have a lot of potential as a company, but as of right now, i give them a 3.5/10

the good:

  • other teachers are great,
  • the classes are well designed and the students are great.
  • the platform works well enough.
  • decent tech support in classes
  • you are paid

the bad:

  • multiple policy changes without forward notice, retractions of changes, reposts and changes in links/urls making it difficult to know what the company policies are, making it seem intentional
  • changing or removal of pay structure information from their teacher handbook / policies without forward notice or explanation, even though their policies also state they will provide 30 days notice of any pay changes.
  • staff members state "just look at the policy" whenever you ask them a question which isn't clear or isn't answered in the (latest) policy and refuse to explain if you ask a follow up question or they misdirect.
  • teachers rage quit frequently
  • frequent messages from the team stating "required" or "urgent" trainings or other matters, however none of them are urgent nor required, creating a sense of urgency, stress and fear
  • classes being booked and removed without any notification or communication, even those with multiple weeks/months of bookings (group classes)
  • strict cancellation policies on your end -- if you cancel more than 3 hours per semester, even if in advance, they dock your pay (charge you), making it very difficult to work for them part time, which is the only option because they do not offer full time work.
  • malformed or mistaken communications - invitations without any links, requests without follow up, repeat copies of emails, retractions of important emails without clear follow up
