Job switch site manager?

I’ve been working as a site engineer/site supervisor in civil construction for about a year now. While I genuinely enjoy the execution side of the job and being involved on site, I’m not willing to work 50+ hours every single week long term.

I feel like during the week I do nothing except work, and then I mostly need the weekend just to recover. When I bring this up with HR, they tell me that during quieter periods I can leave earlier sometimes, but honestly it doesn’t really feel true in practice. It also feels strange to leave the workers alone on site because I feel like mistakes will happen if no one is supervising properly.

So I wanted to ask here if there are people from the construction industry who stayed in the sector but managed to find a “calmer” or more balanced job.
Ideally I’d still like:

- to spend at least some time outside/on site,
- to do at least a bit of hands-on or physical work,
- and not be stuck in a purely managerial role.
(This sounds a lot like my actual job 🥲)

I’m also open to partly office-based jobs, as long as the work-life balance is better.
I’m also quite interested in potentially working in France in the future, so I’d be very interested to hear from people who made a similar transition there as well.

Thanks in advance!
