TL;DR: Got hired for a grad accountant role but my start date is a month later than the rest of the team. They’ve already started and I’m not in the team announcement. Worried I might be a backup hire. Am I overthinking?

I applied for a bookkeeper trainee/admin assistant role at a newly opened accounting firm back in February. I interviewed in mid March and got offered a position in early April.

When they called me, they said the role had been adjusted to a graduate accountant position instead, and that they had hired someone else for the original trainee role. I accepted the offer, but my start date is in May.

Recently, I looked up the firm and saw they officially opened in April, and they posted a team announcement with everyone who started, except me. It made me wonder if my later start date is a bad sign. With the exception of 2 people who relocated from main office, everyone else is new.

For context, I have already signed the contract, and I am currently working another job until I start. I am a uni student and really excited about this opportunity, so I guess I am worried I might just be a backup candidate.

Is it normal for start dates to be staggered like this, or am I overthinking it?
